Lantern at Fullerton Bay Hotel
I’d heard great things about the bars and restaurants at the Fullerton hotels. So whilst in Singapore, we thought we’d try out Lantern at Fullerton Bay Hotel. It’s easy to get confused between the Fullerton Hotels in Singapore. That’s exactly what we did and ended up at the wrong hotel. But luckily there was a basement level walkway between the two hotels and we were swiftly on our way to the bar named Lantern at Fullerton Bay Hotel.
On arrival at reception, we were told that there was a private party at the Lantern bar and it would be unlikely we could get a table. But after a couple of minutes’ wait, we were offered a table. Brilliant!
We were directed to the lift that took us to the top of the Fullerton Bay Hotel and into the Lantern bar. The private party was in full swing but there were quite a few tables outside of the cordoned off area and we were directed to one of those. The private party was being hosted by Google (where was my invite!!) and the music was great. There was a really nice vibe.
Lantern is a rooftop bar, surrounding an infinity pool, serving food and drinks to both non-residents and those staying at the hotel. The views across the Marina Bay waterfront are amazing and we really enjoyed looking up at many of Singapore’s vast skyscrapers. Not long after we were seated, a table overlooking the bay became free and we asked if we could be seated there, which was fine and our drinks were moved over to the other table.
This was our first night in Singapore and we had spent the day sightseeing, including visits to the Singapore Flyer and the Gardens By the Bay. So when we arrived at the bar, we decided we would order dinner here.
I ordered the Caesar salad, which came with croutons, bacon, anchovies, parmesan shavings and a soft poached egg. My husband ordered the supreme of chicken with Paris ham and melted cheese. The food and drink were quite pricey. My salad was 26 SGD (about £15) and the chicken was 36 SGD (about £20). We also ordered a mineral water at 15 SGD (£8.50) and a Tiger beer at 20 SGD (£11).
The cocktails that came out to other tables looked really nice. Looking at the menu, they were also quite pricey, between £12 and £18 a cocktail. But then again this is a very nice hotel, with a very nice rooftop bar, plus to be fair we were in Singapore!
If I’m being honest, the food really wasn’t all that. My salad was a bit overdressed and the egg was a bit slimy, where it had been stored at a cold temperature. My husband’s chicken dish was actually a bit overcooked and dry. Plus he didn’t get much for his money. But we had chosen Lantern for the location and the vibe, and we had got both of those in oodles.
We did really enjoy the experience of being there and I would definitely recommend it for a drink and to enjoy the view. In addition, the staff working there are really lovely and I couldn’t fault the service we received.
