Marco Pierre White Afternoon Tea

As a birthday gift, I booked my friend and me in for an afternoon tea at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant in Islington.

Marco Pierre White’s restaurant in Islington is located inside the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, just around the corner from Angel Tube station. We walked over from Hatton Garden, as that’s where we’d been earlier in the morning and it was quite a nice day.

The hotel was really easy to find and on entry we were seated at a nice table right by the window. The afternoon tea I had purchased for us included a cocktail, so the waitress handed us a cocktail menu and asked which one we would each like. There were quite a lot to choose from, but we both opted for the Kir Royale, which is a cocktail made with crème de cassis and champagne. Crème de cassis is a French liqueur made with blackcurrants.

After our cocktails arrived, the waitress then bought over our cake stand which was full of delicious looking sandwiches, scones and cakes.

The sandwiches were lovely. They were freshly made with the crusts cut off. Egg and cress, ham and mustard, just to name a couple. There were two scones each which tasted as though they’d been freshly baked and they were scrummy. There was also two small slices of red velvet cake and carrot cake and two fruit compots with cream.

I will say the highlight of the afternoon tea were the scones, they were gorgeous. I wouldn’t have normally eaten both of them but the second one was too good to leave.

All in all, the Marco Pierre White afternoon tea was very high quality. The service was a little lacklustre after we arrived. It took us a while to be offered any tea and we had to find someone to order a second pot. The restaurant was very quiet, just a handful of people eating lunch or afternoon tea so it lacked a little atmosphere. But all in all a really nice experience and the superb food made up for the slight let downs.

Cocktail afternoon tea for two at Marco Pierre White’s normally costs £48, but Buyagift often have an offer running where you can purchase it for less.

It's my favourite cocktail too. If we ever have a bottle of bubbly, we nearly always have a kir royale out of it. Such a lovely treat.

  1. Ooh I love an afternoon tea and those scones do look delicious. Red velvet is one of my all time faves too! Shame about the service in such a well respected establishment. At least it wasn't too extortionately priced. Thanks for linking to #DreamTeam x

The scones really were amazing. Normally the scones aren't my favourite part of afternoon tea, but this time they were.

  2. To be honest for £48 for a couple of sandwiches and a bit of cake I'd expect good service. To be fair, the food looked nice though

We had a cocktail too, but then this is London prices! The tea was nice for a treat, but yes it was a shame about the service.

  3. Ooh looks lovely and glad you had a good time. It is so frustrating when an experience is let down by poor customer service, or can't be bothered staff. I hope it didn't ruin your day though and your food more than made up for it! #anythinggoes

  4. When I visit the UK I want to have a proper tea. We don't have anything like it in America and I'm so curious to see it for myself. Scones are yummy! #AnythingGoes

I can't believe you don't have afternoon tea in the US! Yes you'll have to take tea everyday when you come to the UK, it's such a lovely tradition.
