My Holiday Moment
My stand-out holiday moment from our past holidays was our day our exploring the cliffs of the Algarve. We popped on our shoes, packed a bag with water, sun cream and a phone and left our villa with only a plan of which direction we might head in. We headed down the road, towards the coast.
The paths along the Algarve coastline are well maintained and take you on an adventure amongst some of the most stunning scenery seen in this region. The cliffs are iconic and utilised in many advertisements for Portuguese holidays.
We scrabbled up and down dusty paths taking in the views at the highest points along the journey. The views that were most breath-taking were those that looked out to sea. But equally as impressive were the expensive holiday homes that were dotted along the coastline, looking out to sea. Many had immaculate lawns, peppered with large terracotta pots, an assortment of outdoor dining facilities and all had gardens facing that beautiful expanse of the sea. I’d love to own one of those homes, but as it stands, we might be lucky enough to holiday somewhere like that one day!
After a couple of hours walking the cliffs we came across a fish restaurant overlooking the beach of Praia do Manuel Lourenco. After a quick chat with the waitress, we decided to stop for a bite to eat. We were given a table on the balcony overlooking the almost deserted beach below. Some bread, olives and cheese were served to us as we waited for our freshly-caught sea bream to be cooked.
Our fish arrived and our server de-boned it for us at the table. Our table was garnished with a leafy salad and some French fry style chips. We tucked in.
Our lunch was delicious, we washed it down with a bottle of ice-cold white wine and enjoyed every moment of the scenery, the food, the company and the fact that we were so relaxed on our holidays.
The walk back was somewhat more leisurely, deciding to go via the more direct paths and not back over the cliffs. Our full tummies were grateful of this decision.
Our server took a photo and this encapsulates one of my favourite holiday memories, when we explored the Algarve coastline on foot and enjoyed a freshly-caught fish lunch. This would be perfect on the wall in one of the rooms in our house. I need to look into this. I see they offer canvas prints at truprint. Perhaps this might make a romantic gift for my other half?
What’s your favourite holiday moment? Where in the world did you make your standout memory?
