Thai For Two
Thai For Two is an authentic family run Thai restaurant in the heart of Rochester’s high street.
Recently the restaurant has moved from a smaller site to a much larger building on the other side of the high street. To those of us who are local to the area, we would say it’s located at the ‘Rochester end’ of the high street and it’s where Xiankerlai used to be.
We were a party of 7 and we were accommodated towards the back of the restaurant, which has been superbly kitted out. As you walk in, there is a running water feature and then once in the main waiting area, there is another feature with some fish in it. It seems they have paid a lot of attention to the décor. The part we dined in was beautiful with large decorative pieces, once just at the head of our table.
So, on to the food. Well the food. It was beautiful. Freshly cooked, spiced, tantilising, what more could you ask for?
Within our party, we had a nut allergy sufferer. The waitress couldn’t have been more accommodating, they offered to make a nut free pad Thai, so she could join in the deliciousness. The staff were so helpful and attentive.
For starters, we chose the mixed starter to share. This consisted of spring rolls, prawn toast, fishcakes, wontons, satay chicken and something called a vegetable no name. I didn’t ask why it was called this, but I did try it and it was scrummy. I would say it was half way between a bhaji and a dumpling. There was more than enough starters to feed an army, so we did our best, but even we were beaten. We didn’t want to fill ourselves up too much before our main had arrived.
For the main, everyone seemed to order something different. There were duck, chicken and prawn dishes. Rice, pad Thai and some other sides I believe.
I ordered the chargrilled king prawns and a pad Thai to share. When the prawns arrived, they were shell on, which I didn’t expect, but even so, they were delicious. They came with a spicy chilli and garlic dip. The pad Thai was also really tasty. The noodles were cooked to perfection.
The bill for 7 of us (including the drinks and a tip) came to just over £200, which for the quality of the food and the service, I think was great value.
Thai For Two has a 4.5 star rating on Tripadviser and is ranked as the 4th best restaurant in Rochester. I would whole heartedly agree with this as I think our evening out was superb. I would love to visit again, but then I also wonder who number 3, 2 and 1 are on the list in Rochester.
