The Triathlon Challenge

As I mentioned in one of my earlier blog posts, it’s important to mix up your gym routines to keep yourself motivated at the gym. My gym buddies and I have decided we will turning our efforts to training for a ‘triathlon challenge’.

What is a triathlon challenge I hear you ask. It’s an idea that I came up with after browsing round the internet for gym workout inspiration. Everyone knows that a triathlon is made up of a swim, a bike ride and a run, but what distance is covered in each element?  The answer is that actually it varies.  There are 5 different lengths of triathlon -

Super Sprint
400m Swim
10km Cycle
2.5km Run

Sprint
750m Swim
20km Cycle
5km Run

Standard
1500m Swim
40km Cycle
10km Run

Middle Distance
1.9km Swim
90km Cycle
21km Run

Long Distance
3.8km Swim
180km Cycle
42km Run

So the triathlon challenge is where we are going to train towards completing multiple triathlons. We’ve agreed we would like to be able to complete the first 3 lengths of triathlon on the list, but the hardcore amongst you could choose to continue on to number 4 and 5.

Training starts on Monday and I’m really looking forward to it. The first one, the super sprint, looks very achievable in a short space of time. The date has been set for us to complete this, so wish us luck for Saturday the 28th of February.
