Hotel Chocolat Tasting Experience
This year, for Christmas, instead of buying each other physical presents, my husband and I decided to buy each other experiences. But keep them as a surprise so that they were all planned and booked ready to exchange on Christmas day.
Since I’m pregnant there’s obviously a number of things that I can no longer do, either physically or because the experience company’s insurance won’t cover them, so we both had to do some research. Since falling pregnant I have had a very sweet tooth and have craved a little chocolate every day (some days a lot!) so my husband surprised me with a Hotel Chocolat Tasting Experience in Covent Garden.
We travelled up on the train and hopped over to Covent Garden on the tube. Our session was due to start at 3pm, so we got there a few minutes before. After a few minutes of hovering around the chocolate shop above we were asked to come down stairs to do the tasting experience.
On arrival it was very well organised. Someone to take our coat, places laid out to be seated at and someone to pour a glass of Prosecco (or in my case, an orange juice).
Shortly after our host introduced himself and took us through the format of the session. We started with some chocolate that we weren’t allowed to eat straight away. We had to feel, smell and listen (?!?) to it. Then we were allowed to taste it.
The Hotel Chocolat tasting experience lasted 90 minutes and during this time we were invited try a variety of different chocolates, from 100% cocoa right through to their truffles. We were taken through the bean to bar process and even shown some of the machines that carry out these processes.
The beans that Hotel Chocolat use in their products comes from all over the world and so interestingly enough have very different tastes brought on from their growing environments. It was so fascinating to hear about this and actually taste this in the sampling. I thought this was a great experience and enjoyed every minute of it. At the end, we were given a goodie bag of chocolates to take home, which really topped off the experience. If you are looking for a gift for a chocolate lover, I’d highly recommend a Hotel Chocolat Tasting Experience. You can have a look at the options on their website.
