Island hopping is the best way to get the best of Croatia
When planning an itinerary for your adventurous vacation, you simply have to include several Adriatic islands, and while you can’t go wrong with whichever you choose, here’s what we suggest for the best summer adventure.
If you’re starting from the north, sail to the Brijuni National Park and discover the only safari park in Croatia. Here you’ll also find ancient forests made up of olive trees – a truly unique sight. Heading further south, stop at Lošinj, Cres or Pag for an amazing gastronomic offer. Hiking lovers will enjoy the unique Hike on Mars Trail on the island of Pag which is famous for its otherworldliness.
Around this part of Croatia, you’ll find a number of smaller islands with secluded bays and peaceful beaches so we suggest you stop in some of those you bump into. Discover the deep Mediterranean shade of old pine forests and snorkelling in the turquoise water.
If you’re more interested in smaller islands with charming villages, head to the Šibenik archipelago which consists of several uninhabited and inhabited islands such as Prvić or Žirje.
One of the most popular destinations for island hopping and adventurous holidays are the south Dalmatian islands such as Vis, Brač, Hvar and Korčula. Although a lot of people vacation here, they’re mostly situated in the cities, so you’ll be able to go off on your adventures in peace. Discover the Blaca Hermitage on Brač, ancient ruins on Hvar or the untouched nature in the National Park of Mljet which is in the vicinity of any of these islands.

Explore the underwater Adriatic
Aside from its known beauty, the Adriatic Sea has some great underwater sights. While there’s fascinating sea life, there are also a lot of shipwrecks and sea caves that aren’t really underwater, but you have to get into the water to enter. One of the most popular shipwrecks you can dive into is in front of Rovinj, Istria – the Baron Gautsch, but there are also others such as Vassilios near Split, which is actually one of the largest. On your sailing adventure over the Croatian coast, you’ll most certainly sail near some of these fascinating marks of history.
