Autumn – Month 2

Month two has been a mixed bag. My husband went back to work after almost 6 weeks paternity leave, which I’m not sure Autumn noticed, but Austin and I did. We’d had so many lovely family days out that I think Austin was a bit sad that we couldn’t continue to do that every day. I’m also now juggling two children on the days that Austin doesn’t go to nursery. One of the days, I usually visit my Mum and Dad so they’ve been a massive help. On the days where I have the two of them, it does get a bit manic at times, especially when they are both crying or both need something. I also have to make sure I know what Austin is up to whilst I’m breastfeeding, which can be a little challenging at times. Thankfully Autumn seems to have a long sleep in the morning, so I can still spend some quality one-on-one time with my little boy.

Sleeping

Autumn continues to be a good sleeper, sleeping roughly 17 hours a day. She is in a little more of a routine and thankfully she seems to wake a little later than Austin did at this age. I think if she didn’t get woken up by her big brother most mornings, she would easily sleep in until about 7:30 – 8am ish. We normally try and get he down to bed for sometime between 6:30 – 8pm, whenever she looks tired and she’s been awake for around 2 hours from her last sleep. She generally goes off quite well, but then after about half an hour starts fussing and needs settling again until she falls into a deep sleep about 9pm.

We wake her up for a feed before we go to bed, usually between 10 and 11pm. Then she’ll sleep until she wants feeding. Eventually waking for the day sometime between 6:30 and 8am – like I say, depending on whether she gets woken up or not!

She normally goes back down for a long morning nap of around 2 – 3 hours about an hour after waking and then generally wants to sleep every hour to hour and a half after that, but if she’s especially tired, she may only stay away for ½ an hour. Long enough to have a nappy change, a feed and maybe a quick play.

Feeding

Autumn is still feeding well. Generally she feed about every 2 – 3 hours. She is still predominately breastfed, but she does have two bottle of formula a day. One at around 6pm and one around 10 – 11pm. She seems to sleep a little longer after the formula so perhaps it is filling her up a bit more. Overnight, she generally wakes for 2 feeds, but there have been nights where she has wanted feeding every hour (yawn for me) and other nights where she’s only woken up once.

Nappies

Autumn is getting better about nappy changes. Generally speaking if she is well rested and not hungry she’s happy to have her nappy changed. But if either of those needs are not met, she will cry the whole time. But we are super quick with her nappy changes so she doesn’t get upset for long. She’s gone from pooing once a day or once every two days, to pooing several times a day, which although means more messy nappy changes, it has cut down the number of poonami incidents.

Mental Development

Autumn has got a lovely, whole face smile. She is most smiley first thing in the morning. When she wakes up and you peer into the cot she’ll give you the biggest grin. In the first hour she’s awake, we play and chat and she is incredibly happy. She finds it very amusing if you poke your tongue out at her.

She’s much happier to be down on the floor on her playmat and will now interact with the hanging toys. She also likes to be sat up and look through books. We were given some touchy-feely books by one of our friends and she enjoys these very much.

She’s also much more aware when she is awake and really doesn’t like being awake very much. The second half of the month was quite miserable for her, she cried a lot when she was awake and took a lot of calming down and settling. Generally just stopping when she was asleep.

Physical Development

She is still quite a petite baby. At the two month mark she’s just started to fit in to her 0 – 3 months clothes and the newborn clothes are now getting a bit snug. At her last weigh in, which was at 8 weeks, she was 9lbs 3 oz. Austin at this age was 10lb 11 oz so she is quite a bit smaller.

Autumn Month 2

She’s not a big fan of tummy time even though she’s got strong legs and can get up on her knees. She has rolled herself over from front to back trying to get away from tummy time. We haven’t seen any change of colour in her eyes yet. She is still our blue-eyed little girl. We’ll have to wait and see if her eyes do change as everyone else’s eyes are brown.
