Frank’s, West Malling
If you’ve ever driven through West Malling, you surely must have noticed Frank’s? It’s an old building which sticks out on the street and Frank’s, West Malling has a very noticeable green and white striped sign. It’s pretty iconic.
Saying that I’ve driven past it a number of times but never actually been there. So when my friend and I were meeting up for dinner, I thought it would be a good idea to try the food there.
Franks, West Malling specialises in mussels and there’s a huge selection which you can choose from. I decided that I wasn’t in the mood for mussels, so I chose from their other menu, which is mainly steak and fish.
There are lots of exciting choices on the menu, but I thought I would try the monkfish. It’s not something I’ve ever cooked myself so I was keen to have this out. The monkfish was wrapped in bacon and came with buttered courgettes, leeks, potatoes and a red wine sauce.
My friend also chose the same dish as we both thought it sounded delicious.
When the meal came out it was beautifully presented and looked extremely appetising. We both tucked into our fish.

It was as good as it looked, the fish was well-cooked and the bacon was perfect against the monkfish. The vegetable complimented the dish perfectly and the sauce was amazing. I was really pleased to see that the sauce was a generous portion. I hate it when you go somewhere and they offer a sauce and it’s only a dribble and you want more.
I’d love to go back and sample more of their menu as the monkfish I had at Frank’s, West Malling was absolutely divine. The meals and two small glasses of wine came to £48. A very reasonable price considering the quality of the dishes. I think if you were to come to Franks for three courses you would find it would work out to be a slightly more expensive restaurant option, but I would say it is worth it as the experience was great.
