Oak on the Green

The Oak on the Green is one of the restaurants located just off the green in Bearsted. I’ve been there a number of times and always had good service and good food. We decided to go there for lunch for my husband’s birthday, little one in tow.

Oak on the Green

The Oak on the Green is a beautiful pub and restaurant. The restaurant area is decorated with hops and it has a really nice relaxed feel about it. There’s a pub part at the front and also an outdoor area overlooking the green. I’ve only ever been there for a meal though. The restaurant is often very busy, so can be hard to get a table at a weekend. Handily it has a car park out the back, but this can also be busy. There is parking on the road also though.

It was relatively quiet when we arrived – I think because we were having quite a late lunch, so we had our pick of the tables. That was handy as we had our pram with us.

The Oak on the Green is known for quite large portions, it’s the sort of place that only those with a huge appetite would order a starter. We knew this and only went for main courses.

My husband ordered the Barbie. Which is a half-pound burger with BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese. The burger is served with onion rings, chips and coleslaw. Proper comfort food!

I’m still trying to raise my iron levels after my caesarean, so I indulgently ordered a fillet steak. That also came served with chips, onion rings, grilled mushroom and grilled tomato. I also ordered a green peppercorn sauce.

The food came out and it looked mouth-wateringly good. And when we tucked in, it was every bit as good as it looked.

Halfway through our meal, Austin got a bit fed up of being in his pram, so we took turns in holding him whilst the other one ate their meal. Although hubby tried to eat the cold food over him. I’ve learnt when I’m not with Rob to only order meals that I can eat with one hand! The joys of dining out with a baby. But to be fair, Austin is normally fine when I’m out for lunch and often stays asleep the whole time. I think he finds the ambient noise of a restaurant quite relaxing.

So my husband finished his burger (or as much as it as he could), and I finished my steak. Both were absolutely delicious and what we’d hoped from our trip to the Oak on the Green.

The meal cost just under £50 which included two soft drinks. So a great price for two big main meals, one including a fillet steak. Maybe a little indulgent for lunch, but if you can’t treat yourselves on birthdays, when can you.

So if you are in the Bearsted area, I’d highly recommend popping into the Oak on the Green. But make sure you’ve worked up an appetite as the portions are very generous!
