Praia Grande de Pera

Praia Grande de Pera

If you are looking for a beautiful but yet still peaceful beach in the Algarve, you should head to Praia Grande de Pera. It’s sandwiched in between two much more touristy beaches but perhaps as it has slightly less facilities, it seems to be a quieter beach. The beach it’s self is located east of the popular resort of Armação de Pêra.

It’s every bit as beautiful as its neighbouring beaches but you’ll find much more room to spread out your umbrella and beach towels. The beach has a small kiosk. Apart from that it’s untouched. There’s sun loungers and permanent sunshades for hire. The sand is soft and the waves were quite gentle. I would say this is a perfect beach for a really relaxing day in the sun. If you prefer a bit of buzz about your beach, I wouldn’t recommend Praia Grande de Pera. You’d be better off in one of the neighbouring beaches.

We walked from Vale de Parra and it took us about an hour, but it’s easily accessible by car and has ample parking. The beach is accessed by a long wooden walk way that gives breath-taking views over the dunes and two natural wetland areas.

Given that it’s a largely natural beach, it houses a variety of wildlife, flora and fauna across the dunes and wetlands. If you look closely you might spot sea daffodils, sea rocket or rock samphire.

So it’s great for a peaceful day in the sun, but it’s also great for a great walk enjoying some of the sea plantation natural to the area. What do you think? Is this the sort of beach for you? Have you been to the Algarve and what beach did you like?

  1. This makes me want to pack up and go visit. It looks beautiful. I like both a nice quiet beach and a lively one with lots going on, it depends on what mood I’m in on the day. I can’t remember the name of the beach we went to in the Algarve – it was the main one in Albuferia so it was pretty busy!
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes 🙂

I bet there was a great atmosphere there though Debbie. I love the beaches in the Algarve. They are so wide in terms of the variety of busy vs quiet.
