Sitting in one place for hours and hours on a non-stop long-distance flight can take a toll on your skin and leave you with crazy hair when arriving at your destination.

Moreover, trying to sleep and bouncing up and down the seat to find the right angle to put your head on, are great recipes for dull skin and ragged appearance.

Therefore, in order to combat these pre and post-flight after-effects, here are some valuable tips that will make you arrive at your destination looking fresh and fabulous, even after spending thirteen hours at 30,000 feet in recycled air.

Pre-flight preparation

Before you board your flight, it is important to pack beauty essentials that will come in handy, both during and after the flight.

Cleanse your face thoroughly and follow up with a light moisturiser before boarding. This will create a barrier which will prevent the skin from drying out during flight.

Opt for minimum makeup or better still, no makeup at all on long flights to avoid the pores from getting clogged and leading to breakouts.

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your departure, at least two litres per day, to keep the skin moisturised from inside.

Choose comfortable, breathable clothing as it can drastically change your in-flight experience for the long flight. Opt for loose-fitting garments that allow for easy movement.

In-flight skin care tips

Once you are on the aircraft, start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser, followed by a toner to remove any impurities. Apply a good hydrator to keep the skin plump throughout the flight.

During the entire flight duration, use a hydrating facial mist that contains either rosewater or aloe vera, to spritz your face and help your skin stay refreshed.

Do not neglect the delicate areas around your eyes. Apply some gel or eye cream to prevent dark circles and puffiness. Under-eye patches are great substitutes for a full face mask, as they keep the eyes hydrated and prevent the dull look.

Also apply a moisturising lip balm regularly on your lips as the dry cabin air can cause the lips to get chapped. A lip balm with coconut oil can help keep the lips soft and supple.

In-flight hair care tips

In addition to the skin, your hair can also suffer during a long flight. In order to keep your locks looking fabulous, tie your hair in a loose bun to prevent frizz and tangles.

Pack a travel-size dry shampoo if you have greasy hair. This will help absorb the excess oil and also give your hair a refreshing look without having to use water. For best results, just spray a generous amount around 6 inches away from the hair and brush it for a fabulous look.

  1. These are such practical and refreshing tips thank you for sharing! The advice about skipping makeup and using hydrating mist mid-flight is a total game-changer. I especially liked the under-eye patches idea for staying bright-eyed on arrival. Long flights can really take a toll, but with the right routine (and lots of water!), it’s totally possible to land looking and feeling fresh. Bookmarking this for my next solo adventure
