Top Tips For Redecorating On A Budget

I love a home project. We’re always up to something where we are making something, decorating something or doing something up. Quite often our projects take a long time to finish as we are quite ambitious, but we are nearly always pleased with the results.
It’s amazing how much money you can save if you give some of these home projects a go yourself. I know people who spent thousands on redecorating just one room, so I thought I’d share some of my top tips on how you can do your redecorating on a budget.
Upcycle Old Furniture
When you are redecorating on a budget, the first place to start is by looking at what old furniture you have and if it can be re-purposed into another room. If you’ve got old cabinets, bookcases or desks. Can you paint or cover them? Change the size or shape or orientation of them to utilise them in another way?
If you haven’t got any old furniture you’d like to do this with, you could go and have a look at a local charity shop that specialises in furniture. They always have some real bargains that could do with a bit of upcycling and you’ll be helping a charitable cause too.
Carpets On A Budget
Sometimes the room you want to decorate just looks a bit tired because of old carpet. Carpet can be one of the more expensive parts of a room to update, so it’s worth shopping around and finding a carpet that will suit your home and your budget. If you are on a bit of a shoestring, you could look at carpet remnants which would fit your space. Remnants are the offcuts from larger rolls of carpet and these are often much cheaper. Take a look at the range at Designer Carpet. You can get a local carpet fitter to come in, cut and fit your remnant and you’ll save quite a bit of money that way.
Kitchen Makeover

Add Accessories
Sometimes a room only needs a light touch to give it a new lease of life. You could just add some accessories. Maybe a new light feature, some cushions or curtains are what is needed in this case. If you can do this, you’ll be redecorating on a budget and your room will feel like new in no time.
Buy Second-Hand
If you are looking to add some new furniture to your house, you could look at adding some second-hand pieces. Take a look at sites eBay, Facebay or Shpock. We bought a lot of the furniture for Austin’s nursery second-hand and it was in really good condition. It saved us 100s against new furniture and to be honest we got much better quality items than some of the newer pieces we had seen.
Feature Walls
Wallpaper can not only be quite expensive but it can also be tricky to put up. So why not just use a little and create a feature wall? Wallpapering just one wall will take a lot less time and will really add the pizazz that you are looking for. Paint the other walls, as paint is nearly always cheaper than wallpaper. If you aren’t confident with wallpaper, you could look at wall vinyls. These will add personality to any plain room and you’ll find there are lots of choices.
