Secret Garden, Kent

The Secret Garden is a gorgeous restaurant located in Mersham Le Hatch, Ashford in Kent. The restaurant is light and airy and sits amongst a beautiful garden on the Mersham Le Hatch business village. The village is home to a number of business including the Kent Cookery School and the Secret Retreat Day Spa.

I’ve been to The Secret Garden a number of times and it’s always been really good. We decided to go for a family afternoon tea this time.

Parking is really plentiful at the Secret Garden, good thing as I don’t think you could easily get there by public transport. It is on a busy road and your satnav nearly always takes you to the bus stop lay-by just down the road from it!

We decided to go for the traditional afternoon tea. On arrival you are seated and there’s a drinks menu in a frame. You can choose a variety of teas and coffee. I, alongside a number in my family choose breakfast tea which was served in a large pot. The cups, saucers and plates are all mix and match, so we had great fun picking our favourites whilst we were waiting for the drinks.

After the drinks were served, two large cake stands were brought out with sandwiches, scones and cakes on them. There was so much choice!

On the sandwiches front, there was a selection including egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon with cream cheese. Yummy!

Accompanying the sandwiches were freshly baked scones, with jam and cream, choux buns, a raspberry tart, a big hunk of chocolate brownie and a raspberry posset with orange and prosecco jelly. Wow! Obviously we weren’t able to finish all that – we did give it a good go. But they were kind enough to box up the leftover cakes for us to take home with us.

The quality of the food was superb and the team there were very attentive in refilling our tea pot. We are a tea family you see!

After tea we had a little walk around the garden at the back, admiring what plants and veggies were in season. They had a marquee set up there as they often have wedding, which we all agree would be a lovely setting.

Once again, a bit thumbs up to The Secret Garden, Kent. Their food and service is always good and we enjoy coming down for lunches and afternoon teas. I’m yet to try their dinner menu, maybe that’s next on the list.
