My friends and I decided to meet in London one Friday night for cocktails and a catch up. Our venue of choice was called Ziloufs. It’s a boutique cocktail bar and restaurant located on Upper Street in Islington, nearest tube Highbury and Islington.
On arrival the staff member who greeted me was really friendly and welcoming and offered me a booth by the entrance to sit and wait for my friends. The booth was in a great spot for people watching. It overlooked most of the bar and restaurant area, so I could not only see people arriving to meet their friends on Friday night, I could watch the magic of the cocktail making behind the bar.
In the 15 minutes I was waiting for my friends (I was early, they weren’t late!) Ziloufs filled up quite quickly and there was a really nice vibe. Perhaps it was because it was Friday night and people were in high spirits, in light of the upcoming weekend.
When my friends arrived, we decided on some cocktails. Ziloufs runs a cocktail promotion. Two cocktails for £10 up until 7pm or all day on Sundays, Mondays and Thursday. So we teamed up and ordered.
There are some delicious cocktails on the menu. Let me give you a couple of examples –
Apricot Reshuffle - the dark and stormy gets an incendiary kick! Rum, apricot, lime, chilli & ginger beer. If you know me, you know I love a dark and stormy – this was one of the drinks I tried and fell in love with in Bermuda.
Black Forest Mojito – Appleton Estate VX rum, berries, chocolate, mint & cherry coke. Sounds like a dreamy dessert, doesn’t it?
The cocktails tasted great, the music and atmosphere were fantastic. One of my friends has eaten there and can vouch for the food. She said she’d heard great things about their Sunday roast menu. After investigating their website, the Sunday lunch menu sounds great - beef, pork and duck dished, plus a vegetarian option too. Prices start at £8. I hope we’ll be meeting again soon for a Sunday lunch!
So if you are around the Islington area and want somewhere to enjoy a well-made cocktail or a bite to eat, Ziloufs could be the answer. We enjoyed ourselves.
