In many cases, it’s not what you buy or how much you spend; it’s about what you do with what you have that adds to that luxurious feel and elevates the feeling in the room.

Luxury Rug
A luxury rug can be a great way to make your home feel more indulgent and give it an air of sophistication, especially if you’re layering your rugs properly. Layering, in this context, refers to the strategic placement of rugs of different sizes and textures to create a visually appealing and luxurious look. There is an art to using rugs to breathe a luxurious vibe, and while investing in luxury rugs is a great start, how you use them is just as important as the type and size of rugs you buy.
The largest rug goes on the bottom and ideally should be a neutral colour. The next rug you place on top needs to be at least 2 sizes smaller. The next layer can be a patterned rug or even a different texture if you wish a sheepskin rug. They can contrast each other as long as you stick to a neutral base and keep it plain; it can be patterned but not multiple colours or designs, just a simple pattern in one colour, i.e. geometric shapes, herringbone, etc. You can add flair to the top rug; for example, turkish rugs can be excellent top rugs for enhanced layering and style.
Lighting
How you light your home can make or break the impact you’re looking for. And if it’s quiet luxury you’re after, i.e., understated elegance, lighting is not just key; it’s the secret ingredient. Again, like with rugs, layering is optimal for elegance when lighting. You want it to flood the room with as much natural light as possible and then use artificial lighting that mimics natural light around the room. As well as a statement ceiling light for the room and style, you need to invest in lamps, both table and floor lamps, if you wish, and add lighting to walls, i.e. around artwork or pictures or in recessed shelving to add an extra dimension to how the room is lit.
Mix and Match
Luxury isn’t the art of getting a perfectly matching room. While it’s aesthetically pleasing, real luxury comes from being able to create a feel and vibe in a room using pieces together that don’t necessarily match but complement each other. For instance, a statement chair with a wooden frame and leather seats can be paired with a sumptuous velvet sofa in a complimenting colour, or it can be blending modern decor with antiques and statement items. Mix and match your decor to see what works; use inspiration and mood boards to try things out to see what works with the room you have and the items you already own.
Less Is More
This means decluttering. You want fewer items on show, detracting from the vibe you’re trying to create. Luxury homes have little out on display and rely on a few select statement pieces that create a look and tell a story and this is something you’re trying to create in your home to avoid filling it with clutter for a bespoke elegant feel.
