Homeowners often wish their properties had more space. However, many don’t realise that they actually have a significant amount of space available to use — it’s just that it’s not inside. Though the UK weather isn’t always the best, there are still plenty of nice days. Plus, you can always make some additions that help to keep the elements at bay.

By making a few changes, you can make your garden much more inviting, and also significantly increase the amount of time you spend there. Let’s take a look at some of the most effective adjustments to make.

This is a collaborative post.

Make it Passably Beautiful

You don’t need to have a garden that’s worthy of the Chelsea Flower Show, but it should at least be passably presentable. It’s not that working to make your yard look good will have you running to spend time in it, but rather, that if it’s not looking great then you probably won’t want to get out there. The good news is that making a garden presentable is relatively straightforward with a little bit of know-how. Really, all it takes is a good lawn of grass, some flowers/plants, and a few cosy touches. Clear out all the junk you’ve been storing in the garden, the greenhouse and the shed. If you are local to Kent, look into skip hire in Folkestone. If you are further afield, look for a service local to you. A good garden decluttering will make the space feel bigger.

Make It Comfortable

The goal isn’t to spend a little bit of time in your garden; the goal is to create a space where you’re happy to spend long days and evenings. And you can only do that if it’s a comfortable space. The weather could be great and the garden beautiful, but if you’re wrestling with uncomfortable seating, then it won’t be long before you head indoors. For this, you’ll need to invest in outdoor seating. Look at getting a bench with outstanding bench cushions, a lounge chair that can be easily put away, and maybe a bean bag chair or two if you have small children. With those things, you’ll have everything you need to spend long afternoons in the sun.

Sunny Afternoons With Friends and Family

And talking of long afternoons in the sun: what about creating a space that your friends and family enjoy, too? You’ll be more likely to enjoy your garden if it’s a space where your friends and family can relax, too. That should be possible if, first, you’ve bought all the chair options we recommended above. To really maximise the amount of time you spend there, however, look at adding a BBQ. When you have your friends by your side and delicious BBQ on your plate, there’ll be nowhere that you’d rather be.

Bring the Warmth

If you’ve taken all of our tips so far, then you’ll find it pretty easy to enjoy your garden. However, that’ll only really be true when it’s hot and sunny. And, as we all know, it’s not always hot and sunny in the UK. You can ensure you can enjoy your garden even when it’s a little chilly by adding a firepit. They’re inexpensive and easy to install — and they look great, too. Also consider outdoor lighting so you can stay out once the sun sets, too.
