The last thing you want is for your dream holiday to turn into a reason for more stress. If you’re planning on travelling soon, here’s what you’ll need to check before you go.

Holiday Entitlements

You’ll need to book time off at work before you jet off. Instead of booking a holiday and then finding out you’re not entitled to the time off, it’s essential you check first. Check how many days you’re entitled to book at one time and check if your preferred dates clash with other employee holidays.

To double-check, always clear the dates you’re looking at with your boss before making a holiday booking.

Check Your Passport

This is a must-do for anyone planning on travelling outside of their own country. Every country has different rules, so even if your passport is still in date, it’s important to check the travel rules for each country before leaving. Some countries want two years or more left on a passport before it’s considered valid for entry.

If you need UK passport renewal, you can do it online as long as you have all the relevant documents needed. Wait for your new passport to return before booking a holiday, just in case there are delays.

Phone Charges

If you intend to use your phone to keep in touch with family and friends while you travel, you’ll want to contact your network provider before you go. If you don’t inform your provider that you intend on traveling abroad, you could face expensive charges when you return.

Many networks provide free roaming for mobile phones if they know you’re travelling and can cut costs on phone calls and text messages.

Holiday Insurance

Be sure to arrange holiday health insurance at the same time as your holiday. It’s an added expense to your journey, but it’s not worth missing out on. In the event of an accident while you’re travelling, your insurance can cover hospital bills and get you safely back home without you having to pay anything extra.

Avoiding paying holiday insurance could mean you’re stuck with bills you can’t afford if the worst should happen while you’re away.

Cancelled or Delayed Flight

Although rare, cancelled or delayed flights can happen. It can help to know what to do in the event this happens to you. If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to a full refund or a replacement flight. If your flight is delayed, your airline should provide you with food and drink while you wait.

If your flight is delayed overnight, your airline should provide you with accommodation close to the airport.

Make sure you tick these important things off your checklist before you pay for a holiday.
