It’s something you notice pretty quickly, and when it doesn’t feel right, it can throw the rest of the day into chaos. Yes, starting your day off on the right foot can make all the difference in having a day you’re content with and a day that you perhaps wish would end already.
From making sure you’re getting enough sleep the night before to a healthy breakfast, there are a number of efforts that need to be made in order to help kick off the day in the right way. Here are six ways to start your day on the right foot.
This is a collaborative post.
- Hydrate your body as soon as you wake up
Before you get your feet out of the covers and onto the floor, hydrate your body. As soon as you wake up, you should have a glass or bottle of water at your bedside to drink from.
The reason for doing this is that your body has spent the best part of seven to eight hours – hopefully – sleeping, and that’s several hours without drinking any water.
As a result, your body is going to be dehydrated, so you should look to get a good amount of water in your body before you hit the shower or head down to the breakfast table for your breakfast.
- Prioritise a good night’s sleep over everything else
A good night’s sleep is certainly something you don’t want to miss out on, especially when it comes to your health and well-being.
For anyone who has had a bad night’s sleep, you’ll certainly notice the difference you feel in yourself versus when you get a good night’s rest.
That’s why it’s important to try and get a good night’s sleep where you can, especially when it comes to setting up a routine every night to establish the volume of sleep your body needs to function.
If you struggle with getting to sleep or having enough sleep, consider how you can change your sleep environment to cater to better sleep hygiene in general.
- Avoid high sugars and alcohol
Food and drink that contains a lot of sugar is never going to help you thrive during the day. In fact, it’s going to give you a temporary energy high before causing a pretty intense crash a few hours later.
If you’re looking to sustain those energy levels you need from the morning to the evening, then try to avoid high sugar foods and drinks where you can.
Alcohol is also something that can do a lot of damage to your body if you allow it to by drinking too much. If you want to be productive and start the day afresh, then drinking alcohol the night before might not be the best way of achieving that.
- Move your body
Moving your body is a great way of helping to get yourself in the mood you need to be productive. There’s nothing harder than waking up your body when you’re not feeling in the mood too but it can make a big difference to the rest of your day if you’re giving your body the opportunity to move.

Whether it’s a bit of light yoga to an intensive bootcamp-style session in the gym, moving your body is definitely beneficial to kickstart your day in the right way. If ankle pain or instability makes morning exercise difficult, Dr Derek Park, ankle specialist, can assess the underlying foot or ankle condition and recommend appropriate treatment options.
- Take a moment or two for yourself
It’s always good to try and take moments for yourself where possible, and for some, that can be hard to do. For parents, taking the time for yourself at any point in the day might be a rarity, but you may find that there are moments in the morning before the children wake up that you can enjoy to yourself.
From a little longer spent in the shower, to enjoying your speciality coffee from Horsham Coffee Roaster in peace. These are moments that you should try and take where possible in order to start your day off in the best way possible.
- Have a healthy and hearty breakfast
Finally, make sure that you’re prioritising breakfast when it comes to starting your day off right. Breakfast is by far the most important part of your day and, therefore, an essential contribution to starting the day off right. Try to always make time for breakfast and don’t have something too sugary or small in size.
A hearty and healthy breakfast is often the secret to getting off on the right foot and fueling your body for the day ahead. Use these tips and hacks to help start your day right.
