A study published on the National Institute of Health (NIH) website explored the effects of using a topical cannabidiol on former elite athletes. Overall, the participants showed a “significant improvement in self-reported pain levels” and “pain-related disability”. This is also includes: “family and home responsibilities, life support activities, occupational activities, recreational activities, self-care, sexual function and social activities”.
Chronic pain
The participants for this all suffered an acute injury to the lower parts of the body which caused them chronic pain. They had experienced pain that had been ongoing for at least three months. Over the course of six weeks, they used a topical treatment with CBD as the active ingredient.
The study group of former elite athletes found that topical CBD was tolerable and generally received well. This type of study group is significant when it comes to assessing the effectiveness of CBD as this group of people has “substantial specialised experience in self-monitoring”.
