With all this charm, it is easy to see why Cambridge is so popular. The University

How can you visit the city of Cambridge without taking a look at one of the University buildings that are dotted around the city? Known for being one of the UK’s most prestigious Universities, the Oxford vs Cambridge rivalry has been ripe for years. Care to walk in the footsteps of Cambridge’s famous alumni? Some of the most famous alumni include Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin, and Emma Thomson – pretty impressive to say the least!

Despite its educational prominence, Cambridge University is a stunning place to explore if you love architecture. With stunning buildings that are rich in history, Cambridge University is an awe-inspiring place to be.

Punting

If you are looking for a fun and unique experience, punting on the River Cam is a great choice. You can even choose someone to do the hard work for you, making for a more relaxing experience. Sit back and float down the river as you take in Cambridge from the best possible angle and soak up all of its buzzing yet peaceful atmosphere.

Scenery

If punting gets a bit much, then why not pull over and enjoy the stunning parks that run alongside the River Cam. You could sit down with a picnic or grab an ice cream whilst you watch the world go by.

Alternatively, you could visit the Cambridge University Botanical Gardens (CUBG). The CUBG holds a collection of over 8,000 plant species from all over the world, making it a stunning place to visit. You can walk through the gardens and marvel at the beautiful flowers and landscapes carved throughout. Take a walk in the daytime or enjoy one of their late-night summer events for a romantic date night.

The CUBG is also home to facilities for students and lecturers studying horticulture in detail, adding an educational dimension to the gardens.

Finally, if you have a sweet tooth, you may wish to visit The Garden Café within the CUBG. Enjoy the fresh products and sweet treats they have for sale and choose to have them inside or take them on a picnic – the choice is yours.

So, as you get organising your little bit of escapism for the year, don’t forget to consider Cambridge for an intellectual and fun day out!
