Being a house painter is not just about knowing your colours and what to do with a brush, it’s about changing lives, one stroke at a time. Here is how an average day goes for me.

Starting the Day
Long before the sun peeks over the horizon, my day has begun.
After sipping on a hot and strong coffee to jump-start my day, I’m loading up the van with all of today’s essentials—paint cans, rollers, brushes and of course the old trusty radio in order to keep me going all day.
It’s still quiet as I make my way to work- it’s a good time to spend planning what needs to be done.
Setting the Scene
After I walk in, it’s all about getting ready.
Covering the furniture and getting down drop cloths is harder than it looks — I learned quickly that preparation was everything. Time to open up the paint cans! And what’s the colour this time? Whipping Wheat.
It’s an easy-going, smooth beige that will inject some light into the living room I’m working on today.
Getting Right to It
The Painting Begins!
First, we take care of the big stuff. Broad and even strokes are rolled on and the new look unfolds. Then we move on to the edges—the fine details that make all the difference.
It’s more than just painting… it’s making sure every corner is covered, every edge precise.

Lunch Break
When noon comes, it’s time for a quick break. Lunch is simple and typically consists of a sandwich consumed in the shade beneath one of our big leaf maples.
I take the opportunity to rest, but I never fully check out. There’s always drying paint to watch during my lunch break, or I’m thinking about what needs to be done next.
Second Coats & Touch-Ups
The afternoon is when second coats and touch-ups occur. This is when you get to see how everything looks together and where you need to make small adjustments.
Once the final coat has an even finish and sharp edges are clearly visible, I give everything one last look before cleaning up. This step is essential because part of any painter’s role includes leaving your site cleaner than when you arrived!
The Big Reveal
One of the most enjoyable parts of the day is showing off our work to the homeowner. A big smile usually makes all of that day’s effort worthwhile.
After a quick walk-through and some tips on how to care for the new paint, it’s time to get back in the van and head home.
Reflect And Recharge
The drive home is my time to wind down, relax, and reflect. The day’s work is behind me.
It’s time to rest those sore muscles. Being a painter can be demanding on the body… but feeling good!
Knowing that I’ve left someone’s space better than when I found it makes for a happy painter.
