When it comes to home décor, window dressing, whether that is curtains, blinds or shutters are often the unsung heroes that can make or break the aesthetic of a room. Recently, I had the pleasure of updating my dining room with a beautiful roman blind from Blinds Direct, and I’m excited to share my experience – and these before and after photos in my Blinds Direct review post. Blinds Direct Review
Our dining room is a bit of a work in progress. We repainted and got some new furniture over the last couple of years, but there is still a fair bit to do in there. Over the next couple of years, I expect I’ll be able to get rid of the highchair and so that will free up a bit of space and then we’ll look to have a bit more of a revamp. But I’m very happy with the gorgeous rich blue we have on our feature wall and the dresser which has all our treasured bits and bobs on it. Our dining table is quite large for the space, but it comes in very useful when the family descends on us, so on a day-to-day basis, we keep it tucked against the bifold windows which gives us plenty of table space for dinner, and games, crafts, whatever we need it for.
The one feature in our dining room which desperately needed addressing was the old vertical blind. It’s horrible! It’s old and as such has broken in places, there are marks over it and the pull system on it no longer works. A new blind in place of the old one would re-invigorate the room and make it beautiful once again. So I’ve been working with Blinds Direct to revamp my dining room to make it a room to be proud of. We felt that a roman blind would be the perfect replacement for our old vertical blind, as we struggle a little using our dining table in the winter months as our room faces south and we get the low sun hitting us directly in our eyes at mealtime. The fabric I selected allows us to block out the low sun in the winter but doesn’t block the view completely. The blind is also thermal lined, which will really help us in the winter as our dining room is incredibly cold and we draw our blinds once it gets dark to keep it toasty in there. The thermal lining will be instrumental in creating a cosy and inviting dining room all winter long – it will also look fabulously stylish with the ocean-coloured fabric filling the space.

The operation of these blinds is smooth and effortless. The cord mechanism allows for easy adjustment, so I can quickly change the lighting in the room to suit different times of the day. Whether I want to let in the morning sun or create a cosy evening vibe, these blinds make it simple to achieve the perfect setting. They also came with a child safety device which is standard on all their blinds. This is so important to us as we have two little ones running around. Their standard length of blind pull is 1 metre, to keep it out of reach of young children, but you can ask for a longer length when you place your order.

Installation Of Our Blind

One tip I would recommend is to ensure you have a spirit level and a measuring tape on hand to achieve the perfect alignment. Taking the time to measure accurately and follow the installation guide will help you to ensure that you get that polished final look you are after.
Before and After
The transformation these roman blinds brought to my dining room is truly remarkable. Before, our bifold doors were accompanied by some dull, broken and old vertical blinds that served neither the room aesthetically or functionally.
