Exploring Gratitude with Your Child
This is a collaborative post
Gratitude is a learning point that will help your child learn to express kindness, offer support, and be there for others when they need guidance. It’s why a lot of nurseries, like this pre kindergarten in the Upper East Side, will have many pointers that help each child learn to grow up to be supportive and honest to others.
Here are some ways you can continue to explore gratitude with your own children.
Pose different questions to your child
Having your child understand what’s involved in learning to be grateful comes from having open conversations with your child that allow them to be a better person. There are a lot of things you can ask children at a young age. You can explore different concepts and questions that get your child thinking outside of the box, and developing their thoughts and feelings.

It also means your child is going to have better luck at understanding new emotions and what they mean, as well as learning early on how to be compassionate to others.
Ask your child what they are thankful for
Being thankful has similar connotations to being grateful. It means that your child is becoming aware of what they recognise as good things in their life and what can cause distrust and upset. A child that’s aware of what makes them happy also means they’re a lot more reliable when it comes to managing their mental health and being a better person to be around.
Role model gratitude around the home
Being grateful in your own world teaches many things to your child, which can give them a new way to develop their skills. If you’re expressing gratitude in front of your child then they’re more likely to pick up on those mannerisms as well. You’re also developing a close bond with your child in this way.
