One of the features you may want in your garden more than anything else is a beautifully lush green lawn. Luckily, it just takes a little bit of care and a lot of love for you to actually gain what you’re looking for. If you want your home to have the greatest lawn in the suburb, then you’re going to need to follow the tips below.
This is a collaborative post.
Break out the lawn mower. Regular cutting is the key to a lush green lawn, to keep it thick and to keep it healthy. Trimming a little more often is far better than trimming a lot less often, and as a rule of thumb, you want to keep the lawn around 3 to 5 centimetres in length. In the summer, you may want to let that grow a little bit longer to help to withstand periods of drought, but keeping your grass blades a little bit longer not only feels good underfoot, but it helps to protect the roots. In the warmer spring or summer months, you can remove the catcher from the lawn mower ,and then you can mow in mulching mode so that you are trimming a little more often.

- Fertilize it. Lawns require essential nutrients to keep them looking their best. This is achieved through regular feeding, depending on the type of lawn. The good idea here is to feed your lawn every four to five weeks during spring and summer. For every kilo of clippings that you remove from the lawn, you also remove around 30 grams of nitrogen and 20 grams of potassium. 10 grams of phosphorus. You have to replace these nutrients to keep your lawn healthy.
- Water it. Like every plant, your lawn does need watering. If you want to maintain that lush green look, you need to make sure that you’re watering often. You need to consider how you water it against the weather conditions in your local area. When your grass is in need of water, it’s going to look dull, and the older blades may curl up and wilt. Watering it early in the morning before the heat of the sun will prevent the grass from sitting wet overnight and becoming boggy.
- Control the weeds. A thick lawn naturally prevents weeds from taking hold. There won’t be any space for them to pop up, which means it’s all going to be in your maintenance and care as to whether you manage to keep your lawn looking healthy. Use root weeders to weed out those horrible daisies and dandelions. If you do have a strip of natural grass, keep it away from your lush lawn.
- Don’t forget to aerate. Raking your lawn is an important task, and it should be performed when the weather conditions assist the lawn to recover fully. Scarifying can help to reprove the fresh air supply around your lawn’s root system, and raking will help to keep it growing and stimulated.
