We’ve tried our fair share of moisturisers, from lightweight gels to thick, occlusive creams. Some have been too greasy, while others disappeared too quickly without offering the level of hydration needed to stand up to stale indoor air and dry winter conditions. So, when we went into the trenches again in search of a holy grail moisturiser, we had certain criteria in mind…

It had to be gentle but potent enough to withstand harsh winter winds and the moisture-draining effects of indoor heating. We came across Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Moisturiser from a quick Google search and were intrigued by all the positive reviews.

If you’re curious, like we were, here’s a deep dive into what this cream offers, from price to performance and more.

This is a collaborative post.

Price

Fresh offers this moisturiser in three different sizes: the full-size 50ml tub retails for £42.00, the 15ml travel size costs £17.00, and the jumbo 100ml version is available for £65.00. While it’s certainly not the most affordable option, it falls within the mid-to-high-end skincare price range. The cost is justifiable if you value premium ingredients and an elegant skincare experience.

Product and Ingredients

This is one of Fresh’s best-selling products, and we were eager to see if it lived up to the hype. But first, let’s go over a few key details. For starters, it features a simple formula of potent ingredients, including Damask rose extract, which helps to strengthen the skin’s barrier, and a blend of low- and high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acids that attract and retain moisture. It also contains soothing rosewater to calm the skin.

You may wonder what makes Damask rose extract special. Out of 200 rose species, this particular variety was selected for its ability to enhance moisture retention. The extraction process is eco-friendly, ensuring the enzymes responsible for long-lasting hydration remain intact. Combined with Fresh’s time-release technology, this formula promises up to 72 hours of continuous surface hydration.

The moisturiser works best when applied to the face and neck daily, both morning and night, after using a toner and serum. It’s designed for normal to dry skin and has a subtle, fresh rose scent that isn’t overpowering.

Texture

The texture is a unique balance between a gel and a cream. While it has the thickness of a rich cream, it also has a gel-like quality that allows it to spread easily and absorb quickly. Once applied, we noticed that it leaves the skin feeling slightly thick but not unpleasant — just enough to create a smooth base for layering other products. It feels luxurious and nourishing without being overly greasy or heavy.

Performance

Fresh is known for combining natural ingredients with an artisanal, sensorial experience, which has been shown to boost feelings of happiness and well-being. The cream’s scent is floral and elegant, reminiscent of a high-end perfume, yet delicate enough to suit sensitive skin.

The cream melts beautifully into the skin, providing an instant boost of hydration. Unlike some heavier creams, it doesn’t leave a sticky residue and there’s no pilling or bobbling. These features make this cream ideal for layering under makeup, especially if you apply foundation right after skincare.

This moisturiser can help those struggling with dryness, irritation, or seasonal breakouts. Rose extract really shines here with its ability to calm, soothe, and hydrate the skin. After a few days of consistent use, we noticed our skin was plumper, dewier, and more radiant. It’s especially beneficial for nighttime routines when you want to lock in moisture.

The Downside

While this moisturiser has much going for it, it may not be the best choice year-round. Its rich formula, which makes it ideal for colder months, is also its Achilles heel during warmer seasons. It could feel a bit too heavy in summer, especially for those with combination or oily skin. So, if you live in a humid climate or prefer a lightweight moisturiser, this might not be the best fit for your needs.

Another consideration is the price. While the quality of ingredients is excellent, more budget-friendly options on the market offer similar hydrating benefits. If cost is a concern, you might want to explore small versions or alternatives before committing to a full-size jar.

The Verdict

Overall, the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Moisturiser is a beautifully formulated product that promises deep, long-lasting hydration. It excels at calming and nourishing dry or sensitive skin, a quality which makes it a great winter staple. The texture, scent, and luxurious feel make it a joy to use, and it pairs well with the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Toner and Balancing Emulsion for an effective skincare routine.

That being said, it may be too heavy for the summer months, and the price point might not be accessible for everyone. If you’re looking for a deeply hydrating cream for colder weather and are willing to invest in high-quality skincare, this could be a fantastic option.

Would we repurchase? For winter, absolutely. For summer? We might opt for something a bit more lightweight. Ultimately, it’s a great product worth trying, and your skin barrier will certainly thank you.
