As a parent who also runs my own business, I don’t have time for eco swaps that sound lovely in theory but end up being a faff in real life. I’m quite cut-throat when it comes to products that we use. If it doesn’t work, doesn’t last, doesn’t live up to the eco-promises or isn’t suitable for my young family, it’s out. So when I was offered the chance to try out the GreenTabs Foaming Hand Soap from The Green Company, I jumped at the chance. It sounds like exactly the sort of product that we’d use as a family. Refillable, plastic-free, gentle on skin, minimal effort and long-lasting. Sounds great, eh! But does it actually hold up in a busy family? Here’s my honest review of GreenTabs Foaming Hand Soap.

What Is GreenTabs Foaming Hand Soap?
We’ve been doing this for a while, but instead of buying a new plastic bottle every time you run out, you can make your own effective foaming hand soap. Until now, we hadn’t come across GreenTabs, but boy, are we glad we have. If you aren’t familiar with how refillable soap works, it’s simple. GreenTabs uses small dissolvable tablets. You drop one into a reusable foaming bottle, add warm water, give it a gentle swirl, and a few minutes later, you’ve got delicately and naturally-scented foaming hand soap.
That’s it.
No heavy refills. No pouring sticky liquid. No wrestling with giant plastic pouches while a toddler clings to your leg, asking what you are doing, whilst trying to help.
Why I Wanted to Try It
Like a lot of families, we go through hand soap quickly. Between muddy hands from the mud kitchen, endless meals and snacks, after-school/nursery germs and constant bathroom trips, we get through a lot of hand soap. I mean, A LOT!
The part I love most about the GreenTabs foaming soap is that it helps us reduce the single-use plastic coming in and out of our home. But there are so many other features to love, too. We need a hand soap that is gentle on our hands. Both our kids suffer from sensitive skin and eczema, so we have to be careful what we use. The GreenTabs soap is made using only natural, skin-friendly ingredients. All their ingredients are on the EPA Safer Chemical Ingredients. They also scent their hand soaps with pure essential oils.
How Does It Actually Perform?
This was my biggest question. A lot of eco foaming soaps I’ve tried before have been a bit watery. You press the pump and get a sad little cloud of nothing. Not this one.
The foam is soft, creamy and properly cleansing. It feels lovely on your hands. Not only does it produce good foaming soap, but it lasts twice as long as regular gel soaps, which is exactly what we need in this house.
We’ve been trialling the soap for a couple of weeks now, and we’ve found that it doesn’t have that overpowering artificial fragrance that lingers on. The scent is subtle and fresh. We’ve tried a couple of the scents – coconut and sandalwood & lavender & vanilla, and they are both really lovely. There are actually four to choose from, but because the soap is so long-lasting, we’ve only used two refills in our dispenser so far.
All our hands seem to be enjoying the quality ingredients. I spend a fair amount of time outside, so I suffer from dry hands and some hand soaps make them so much worse. The GreenTabs foaming soap seems to be very gentle on all our hands, so I’m thrilled with this.
Another plus point is that the reusable bottle actually looks nice on the sink. We’ve been using empty foaming ones and just refilling them. This looks SO much nicer.
You may be concerned about the glass bottle, especially if you have kids. Be reassured that The Green Company have drop tested them on the concrete floor of their warehouse. Using the protective silicone base, they withstood shoulder-height drops. So, obviously, you’ll want to take care of your bottle since it’s still glass, but that should give you a bit of peace of mind about adding a glass item to your bathroom.
I would say this feels like a great, realistic swap. Not an extreme lifestyle overhaul. Just one small change that adds up over time. It’s good for you, good for the environment, and it’s just one piece in the puzzle of achieving a better lifestyle.
Things To Know
You do need the correct foaming pump bottle for it to work properly.
Make sure you use warm water to help it dissolve fully.
That’s about it. There’s no drama. No complicated instructions.
Would I Buy Again?
Yes. As a busy mum trying to make more eco-conscious choices without compromising on practicality, this feels like a genuinely good swap.
It’s easy, gentle on skin, effective at washing, lowering our waste and most importantly, family-approved.
And if something survives daily use in a household with kids, that’s about as strong a review as I can give. Our GreenTabs Foaming Hand Soap gets a big (and clean) thumbs up from this household.
