Homemade Christmas Decoration
Itโs December, so we can officially start putting up our Christmas decorations. There’s nothing better than a homemade Christmas decoration either. If you need some further inspiration, pop over to Pinterest. There’s lot of fabulous ideas on there.
My good friend Lisa at Most Curious Rose has created this beautiful homemade Christmas decoration and we thought we would share how you can recreate this too.

You will need: sticks (Lisa used pea sticks), secateurs, a reel of wire, wire cutters, a piece of wallpaper, scissors and some small decorations.

Cut a large triangle, the same size you would like your finished tree to be. Overlay the sticks at regular intervals and trim them with secateurs to fit the wallpaper outline.
Cut a length of wire. This should be the same length to run up and down both sides of the tree with plenty of overhang on each, as the wire will shorten as you twist and wrap it. Make a loop at the top, so you can hang the tree.

Starting with the shortest stick, work down the left hand side, wrapping the stick with the wire and twisting to tighten in place.
When you have finished the left, start on the right hand side. You won’t be able to twist the wire because the sticks will now be fixed on the left, but you can wrap each stick twice.

Once you have the framework, you can start hanging your decorations. You can use wire, thread or ribbon to hang anything that doesnโt already have a hanging thread on.

What a beautiful, homemade Christmas decoration. My thanks to Lisa at Most Curious Rose for sharing her creation with us. If you are looking for another creative idea, you could take a look at this Christmas Rage Wreath. If you are crafting with the kids, why not try making Paper Plate Baubles or Fingerprint Christmas Tree Ornaments?
Christmas is a festival of love and warmth. If you want to make your Christmas more personal and memorable through handmade products, you might as well try custom patches!
You can choose your favorite Christmas elements such as elk, bells, Santa Claus, etc. to design the patch pattern, integrate them into Christmas decorations, use patches to light up your Christmas tree, decorate your Christmas stockings, and even embellish your Christmas sweater to create a unique holiday atmosphere.
Not only that, custom patches can also become a unique Christmas gift for relatives and friends to convey your blessings and thoughts.

Happy crafting and happy Christmas to you all. Whether it’s homemade or not, make it magical.

[…] crochet is not your thing but you still feel like making something for Christmas, I love this Homemade Christmas Tree Decoration from Life […]
I absolutely love this, it looks amazing. You are sooo creative. I will have to try this one next year. Pinning for later. Thanks again for another fab post #sharewithme
I can’t take the credit for this one. My friend Lisa made this. I could have though, Lisa’s instructions were easy to follow I thought.
This is brilliant. I always wish I was more crafty at this time of year ๐
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes
Debbie
I know, I always get the urge but it’s nearly always at the wrong time as Christmas is so busy!
Thanks Stevie. I know it’s lovely isn’t it. Lisa’s definitely got an eye for detail. Thanks for hosting and having me.
That’s really lovely! I want to try one now – if I can find any free time! ๐
It is lovely isn’t it? Lisa’s done a very nice job. I don’t think it’s too timely if you did find a window.
Great idea ๐
I agree that December is the time to start putting up Christmas decorations. I hate shops starting to tout Christmas in October… Takes away so much of the excitement and anticipation!
#sharewithme
I agree Joanna. December is the right time to be celebrating and getting everything ready. Otherwise it loses its excitement.
Great idea! Homemade decorations have so much more meaning to them. #ShareWithMe
That’s very true Erin. It’s something unique and personal to you.
What an awesome make!!! I think I might try this with my boys โ they’d love it!! Will pin for another day โ thanks so much for sharing! ๐ #ShareWithMe
Good luck with it Caro. If you do make it, please share a photo. Lisa and I would love to see it.
Oh I absolutely love this. I bet it would cost a fortune in those art and craft shops too. You have inspired me to give it a go. Now off to find some sticks. #sharewithme
You’re absolutely right Catie. I bet it world too. Much nicer to have the satisfaction of knowing that you did it yourself too.
What a lovely idea. Very pretty and unique. Thanks for linking to #picknmix
Thanks. I think so too. Thanks for hosting!
Oh, this does look fun! Pinned to try later
Thanks Mrs Tubbs – please share your photo if you do give it a go.
This is Fantastic! I was just saying how we can’t put a tree up (4 cats and a toddler will do that to a person) and this is such a great alternative!! I have shared it too! #AnythingGoes
Thanks Charlotte. Yes that’s ideal with 4 cats and a toddler!
What a fantastic idea. I am actually suppose to be cutting down on the number of decorstions I put up this year, but its not easy with great ideas like this x #picknmix
You should definitely do this instead of culling your decorations. No one would argue you have too many decorations Tracey. It looks so stunning against Lisa’s wall.
Wow! this looks fantastic and you can even recycle old decors you want to get rid of… Such an amazing idea! now I’m thinking which wall I’m gonna put it in… #PicknMix
It does doesn’t it Cheryl? It’s really creative and I don’t think it’s too complicated for something that looks that effective.
Sally, I love this! Rustic and glam or modern mixed is right up my alley and this is awesome! It amazes me how creative people are, and the awesome things they come up with. I gotta question, what are pea sticks????
I know. Lisa is so creative, but then again she is a florist, so I’d expect nothing else! It looks fab doesn’t it. Pea sticks.. yes. They are just like beanpoles but shorter. I’m not sure of the official definition. We don’t have a garden yet, so my knowledge of these things is rubbish. But any type of wooden sticks would work.
Hi Nikki,
Pea sticks are basically a more rustic version of garden canes! They’re only available in one short size at my local garden centre. However, if you watch Gardener’s World, they will re-use any twisty branches as ‘pea sticks’- they’re literally just any kind of stick that can support pea plants as they grow! Hope that clears things up!
Due to popular demand by some little people we’ve had our tree and decorations up since the 25th of November.
We were only looking on Pinterest this morning for homemade christmas ideas that we can make over the weekend so your post fits right in.
I don’t blame you Marcel. It’s such an exciting time for kids. I really wanted to put my tree up last weekend but it did feel a little early. But we are putting ours up tomorrow. I’ve already got the mulled wine ready.
I hope it helped to inspire you. I feel inspired by it!
That’s such a clever idea! I’ve got a big space on my wall that would look great with a tree like that on it.. ๐
I know, Lisa is so patient and talented. I think there’s not many walls it wouldn’t look good on. You should definitely give it a go Rebecca.
This looks fabulous, especially against the turquoise background. What a great idea, I really feel inspired to try, thanks for posting Sarah
It does doesn’t it. Lisa is so talented. If you do give it a go, we’d love to see a photo. I’m going to see if I can persuade Lisa to make another now!
This looks great and could be a really good alternative to a traditional tree for families that have little crawling, grabbing toddlers – like me! Shame we already bought a floor-standing tree but I might remember this for next year if this year’s tree ends up in tatters ๐
I hadn’t thought of that Robyn. But that’s a great idea. It would be much better with the little ones, absolutely. Hope your tree survives ๐
