School is only part of the equation when it comes to a child’s performance at school. Other factors, such as how they spend their free time and when they sleep, can inadvertently affect how they feel within themselves and perform. In this post, we explore this idea and recommendations from a private sixth form for parents.
How Do My Child’s Lifestyle Choices Impact Their Education
This is a collaborative post
What They Eat
We’re all familiar with the saying, “You are what you eat”. It’s true for our productivity and what we can achieve. Consuming nutrient-rich, filling foods can help children power through their day and take on board information at school. Having a poor diet, on the other hand, that is full of sugar can make children feel sluggish and tired. Before they go to school, be sure that your child has a healthy breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day and provides children with a dose of energy since their meal the night before, so it mustn’t be skipped.
Sleep
Sleep is just as vital as it recharges the body and helps children stay focused and alert. A lack of it can make concentration and retaining important information extremely challenging. Roughly children should have at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, although this will vary depending on age. If your child struggles with sleep, perhaps consider mindfulness, as it helps calm the mind and makes falling asleep easier.
Screentime
Another lifestyle choice that can affect a child’s education is screen time and how addicted they are to their devices. They are hard to put down, and apps are designed that way to keep users on their platforms. Having a strict screen time limit can ensure that children spend a healthy amount of time online, complete all homework and have time to explore their interests.

In essence, children need a good routine and stability to thrive, so they must have a nurturing home environment. It’s never too late to start if you’re not keeping an eye on the above already. Gradually introduce small changes and build a good routine.
