How is a given location going to work with your daily routine? Where do you need to be each morning, and how easily will you be able to get there?
In some cases, this might mean thinking about the availability of local public transport. Commuter towns are often judged by the quality of their connection to a subway system. But it’s important that you lift your gaze beyond the boundaries of the development, and think about what’s available in the wider area. It might be that there are quality walking routes, independent farm shops, and major roads, each of which might influence your willingness to establish roots in a given area.
When you’re making this decision, you’ll want to think not just about the here and now, but also about how the area might change in the future. Proposed infrastructure developments and major planning applications are often a matter of public record. You just need to do a little bit of research.
Consider how your needs may change
As well as considering changes in the vicinity of a development, you’ll also want to think about how your needs will evolve over the coming months and years. If you can see yourself adding children or pets to your household, or you intend to spend time working from home, then it’s almost certain that your ideal home will shift considerably. Factor these changes into your decision when you’re shopping for a new home.
