Your home has a lot of potential, regardless of what space you’re working with. Chances are, you’ve got a lot more space within the home that can be taken advantage of, which means you should be looking at how to utilise this space for the purpose of enjoying your home even more so than ever.

If you’ve got a growing family, being able to do more with your space is going to be beneficial for all the brood. With that being said, here are some helpful ways in which you can make more of your home’s space this year and beyond.

This is a collaborative post.

Declutter

A big contributor to a lack of space is clutter around the home. It’s good to be mindful of how much you’ve cluttered up your living spaces, especially when it comes to things taking up the floor.

It;’s a force of habit but it’s one that’s likely causing a lot more restriction around the home. Feel like you’re constantly tripping over things or bumping into furniture? If that sounds familiar, then it might be worth looking at your home as a whole and individually when it comes to the rooms.

Try to declutter the spaces as best as you can, focusing on each room when decluttering. Raid through all the cupboards and drawers so nothing gets missed when doing a big clearout.

Add mirrors to create the appearance of more space

Mirrors are a great way to create space within a room, especially if you’re able to fit mirrors that go from the ceiling to the floor.

Of course, this might not always be possible but the bigger the mirrors are, the more of the illusion it creates when it comes to additional space.

Adding mirrors is a useful way of adding more depth to a room, which is helpful if the room you’re working with is fairly small in comparison. At least the visual feeling of more space is a benefit that will hopefully make you feel less cramped.

Convert the loft

A loft conversion is worth considering when it comes to making more use of your home’s space. While not everyone might be able to afford or justify loft conversion costs, the investment you’re making is certainly a worthwhile one.

With loft conversions, you have the capacity for even more space. That means an extra room whether it be for the purpose of a bedroom or study, for example.

Converting the loft is definitely something to think about doing, especially if you’re struggling for space and the loft is a viable option instead of the mammoth cost of an extension.

Loft conversions are a great way to maximise a space that’s often not thought about or used as often. It typically becomes a place to store everything that you don’t want to see for the majority of the year or your lifetime. Why not make use of it while you’re able to?

Use different types of storage

Storage is a big one and the more you make use of it, the better it’ll be for your home. It’s good to get smart with your storage, opting for not just your typical plastic and fabric box storage but consider perhaps vertical storage to reduce the amount of floor space used.

Talking of floor space, floating shelves are often a preferred choice when wanting to lift a lot of the stuff you have, off the ground.

There’s also a hidden storage that you might want to consider. For example, you can get a bed that has storage underneath which requires lifting the top of the bed up to reveal ample storage space.

You’ve also got other items of furniture that come with hidden storage and can be useful for helping store odds and ends that would otherwise be lying about.

Make use of the outdoor space available

It’s good to make use of any outdoor space that you have available. Outdoor living has certainly become more popular in recent years, despite not always getting the best weather here in the UK. However, it’s definitely something you can make use of when you’re lacking the space inside.

Think about purchasing some outdoor furniture from sofas to firepits, dining tables, and chairs. All of this outdoor furniture can be useful for entertaining guests throughout the year but particularly over the summer time.

Making more of your home’s space is important and when you need some inspiration, you can come back to this article to find some direction.
