How To Make Your Blog Stand Out

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I’m reading blogs I feel like I’ve seen the same design and style over and over again. It’s quite refreshing when I go on to a blog and I see a different layout, a funky font or a different style of photography. It makes me intrigued to read more of that blog and I really enjoy looking at the different ways to do things.
There are several ways you can make your blog stand out. One of these ways is your photography. Have a style that you are comfortable with and that suits what you are photographing and then stick to that style. I know it’s easier said than done. I’m not one that has a really slick photography style, but I do try to take the best shots I can and although my lighting might not be all the same or the angles I shoot are different, I try and shoot things that are real and that I think make good, interesting shots.
Another way to make your blog stand out is to look at custom fonts. Using a WordPress font plugin like Fontsy.com is a really smart and easy way to do this. You can select one (or more) of their 1,300 different font styles and then really make your blog stand out. The plug-in is compatible with WordPress blogs and its really simple to use.
I think it’s really important to have a font that you identify with and that you use across all your branded pieces, whether that’s your blog or even your business cards. Your font can tell others a lot about you from just a first glance.
Another really easy way to make your blog stand out is the tone you write in. It’s easy to spot a piece written by your favourite blogger if you recognise their style. It may be the words they use (or don’t use) that makes them stand out. It may be their level of formality or informality. They may write in a way that is charming, funny or just downright rude. Whatever style they use, it will be unique to them and this is another way to make your words stand out from others’ content.
However you write your blog, I think it’s important to check your spelling and grammar. I know I’m not perfect – it’s so hard to proof-read your own writing, but there are a lot of tools out there which you can use. From simple things like using the spell checker tool on your computer to adding the Grammarly plug-in to Word. I use it all the time, it’s one of my top tips when writing anything.
