Often, it is not as good as it should be because your home is not exactly the perfect environment for carrying out your role. If that sounds all too familiar, you can change things and really start living the dream with a few simple interior decor tips and tricks…

Define your workspace

The biggest interior decor tip I can give you as a homeworker is to define your workspace really clearly. Even if you happen to be working on your kitchen counter, it is a good idea to do what you can to section off and separate your workspace from the rest of the house, during working hours at least. This could mean using room dividers or investing in a partitioned booth, or even stacking some books to give you a wall of privacy. You could use some gorgeous timber cladding to deck your office out, either inside or out. Of course, if you can dedicate a whole room to your office, that is the dream.

Make noise a thing of the past

If your homeworking dream has been ruined by excessive levels of noise around you, there are a few things you can do. If, for example, the noise is coming from outdoors – maybe a neighbour’s dog barking incessantly or road traffic driving you crazy – investing in the best window shutters you can afford will help you to absorb as much noise as possible before it reaches you, heavy curtains are a cheaper option for this, although not quite so effective as wooden shutters.

If the noise is coming from inside your home – unruly kids, TV noises, etc. –  then things like hanging fabrics and tapestries on the walls or placing thick rugs on the floor can help to dampen the sound down so you can get to work in peace.

Discover The Best Furniture

Being comfortable whilst working from home is very important, especially if you want to take care of your physical health and stay productive. Depending on the type of role you are doing, you may find that you need specialist furniture or equipment to make your life easier. Not everybody needs a standard desk and ergonomic chair to carry out their day-to-day job; some industries can require very different interior decor and furniture. For example, if you’re running a small BnB or pub from where you live, you may need Bistro Chairs for your guests to relax and unwind during their stay. Or, if you’re running a beauty salon from a spare room in your home, you may need waiting room chairs or a massage table to complete your overall interior design. Working from home can look different for everyone, so it’s up to you to discover the best furniture for your personal needs.

Lighten up

Next, you need to think about lighting. The quality of lighting in your workspace can make a huge difference to how comfortable you are, as well as your productivity levels. well-lit workspace can boost your productivity and reduce eye strain., so you should try to opt for a combination of natural light and artificial sources that allow you to adjust the lighting conditions as and when you need to. Avoid fluorescent lighting which can cause headaches and often has a detrimental effect on productivity. And remember, the softer the light, the gentler it is on your eyes. Adjustable desk lamps are a lifesaver for those late-night hustles.

Storage!

The more organized you are as a homeworker, the closer to living the dream you will be. A key part of being organized is having enough space to store things, so invest in filing cabinets, storage bins, and shelving units to keep the place ship-shape and your papers easy to find.

Creating the ideal space for homeworking will undoubtedly make the process even better for you, so what are you waiting for?

  1. Great tips. I’m lucky enough to work from home and having a workspace separate from the rest of the house makes such a difference to my productivity.

    1. I totally agree Zoe. Although my office doesn’t have a door. When the kids are at home, I have to put earphones on!
