Own Your Brand

I don’t know about you, but I am my brand. I think a lot of bloggers will feel the same way. Your blog is a personal insight into who you are and what you represent. You share your thoughts, your opinions, your photos, perhaps even those of your loved ones too. It’s important that you are proud of your blog and what it represents.
I love the branding on my blog. It all came about when I thought about what I wanted my blog to be. I wanted to share my positivity about life. Hence my slogan ‘ketchup tomorrow, relish today’. It’s silly but it’s fun and encapsulates what I stand for. My branding is a further extension of me. I had a friend design my logo and help me with the other assets. It’s the one thing that has stayed constant on my blog since day one.
If you don’t have a consistent brand, it can be hard for people to identify a piece of content that has come from you. It’s not to say that you should always do exactly the same thing time and time again, it just everything should have a similarity so people know that it’s you. If you haven’t got an identity, you could start by looking at your logo. The chaps over at Font Bundles can help you with this. They have lots of resources available, including free fonts which you can download and use to help you create a logo and then other branded assets from there. It’s really simple to do. I came across this handy video which shows you exactly how you can do it.
Their fonts work across lots of programmes including office applications and photoshop – these are my go-to programmes for anything to do with my blog.
I had a browse through the fonts they have available on their site and there are loads to choose from for lots of applications. They’ve got some really fancy script fonts which would be ideal for a lot of bloggers who are looking for somewhere to start with their branding. If you aren’t very design-friendly, you could even sit down with a designer and pick a font style you like together and they can design something around that for you.

Maybe it’s because I work in marketing, but I do get quite excited about fonts and picking one for a brand. I love what the right font can represent. If you have the right font, the rest will fall into place easier as you can extrapolate elements of that design for other areas of your branding. There’s a lot of companies with really strong brands out there. Two of my favourites are IKEA and Innocent. Their branding rocks!

So just remember, you are your brand and if you don’t like what you are putting out there currently, change it. It’s simple!
