When life gets busy, or just a bit overwhelming, it’s easy to forget how great it is to be able to enjoy a good hobby – and we mean something that’s not necessarily about achieving more or being totally productive, we just mean something you do because you enjoy doing it and it makes you feel good. It’s got to be something that helps you unwind, takes your mind off things, and makes you happy, and if it can do all that, it’s a good hobby.

And the best thing of all is that starting a hobby doesn’t have to mean you’ve got to sign up for a class or buy loads of expensive equipment or even block out hours in your schedule to fit it in because it can just be something really simple, and even something you can start today. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

This is a collaborative post.

You Don’t Want Pressure

In the end, the best hobbies are the ones that let you switch off a little, so you don’t want to do anything that comes with any kind of deadline or expectation – remember, you’re not doing this for anyone other than yourself, so as long as it feels good and you enjoy it, that’s what counts.

You could make something, move your body, or perhaps it’s something more creative, but whatever it is, it’s useful to know you don’t have to be ‘good’ at it because that’s really not the point. You just have to enjoy doing it, and if that’s the case, you’ll get the most out of it.

Things You Can Try Without Leaving The House

If you’ve got a quiet moment and a phone, tablet, or laptop nearby, the list of easy, relaxing hobbies becomes a lot longer – you could doodle, journal, listen to a podcast, start a simple craft, learn the basics of a new language, watch yoga videos (and ideally follow along), and so much more – it’s all there at your fingertips.

Or maybe you want something fun and a little interactive – in that case, an online pool game could be just what you need. It’s easy to pick up, doesn’t take a lot of time, and there’s no pressure. Plus, there’s something really satisfying about getting all those balls into the pockets, so you’ll feel nice and relaxed by the time you’re done.

Make It Part Of Your Day

If the idea of adding one more thing to your schedule just sounds totally exhausting, don’t worry – a hobby doesn’t actually have to be another item on the list, it can just be part of your day rather than something extra.

It could be ten minutes before bed or during your lunch break when you might have been doing something else less fun or less good for you, for example, and that can be all you need to enjoy your hobby and get the most out of it. The key is to find something that feels easy to start and good to come back to, and if you can do that, you’re on the right track.
