There’s a new kid on the block! It’s called the Simshine Baby Pro and it’s a very intelligent baby monitor. I’ve received a sample of this new baby monitor, so I’m putting together a post with a full Simshine Baby Pro review, but before I go into my thoughts on this clever baby monitor, I want to draw your attention to the features that are available on it.

There are lots of great functions to the Simshine Baby Pro monitor, including cry detection and a rollover monitor. These are great for parents of babies who are just starting to roll about, as often babies can get themselves onto their front, but then will struggle to get themselves back over and as we all know, babies should be sleeping on their back. The cry detection is 99% accurate. You can choose to activate the music automatically until your baby falls back to sleep. There’s also a fencing mode, where you can set a perimeter around the cot or sleeping area. If your child goes outside of this perimeter, the app will send you a notification.
If your little one likes a bit of music, the Simshine Pro can play lullabies which may help soothe your baby to sleep. There are five charming lullabies to choose from.

One of the most important features is the thermometer. In the UK, we can get the extremes of hot and cold, so it’s good to know you can check the temperature of the room your baby is sleeping in with a quick look at your phone. It’s pretty accurate too. I checked it against the in-room thermometer and it was quite close. The inbuilt hygrometer was quite inaccurate. It says the room humidity was much higher than it actually was.
The night vision on this camera is pretty decent. The picture is nice and clear even in low light. The camera can pan 360 degrees and can tilt up and down. This is exceptionally useful when your baby gets moving a bit more as they won’t stay in one place in their cot during the right. With a fixed monitor, you may have to go and reposition your camera (or baby) during the night so you can see where they are and that they are sleeping soundly and safely.
This monitor uses a mobile phone app as the receiver. It’s ideal for parents who leave little ones with babysitters or other carers, so they can have peace of mind that baby is sleeping soundly. You can add up to five users from one camera. The signal is transmitted via a secure internal 2.4GHz channel with FHSS technology, so parents can be sure that they are the only ones who can see and hear their baby.
There are lots of other lovely features which you can access via the app, including a growth monitor, sleep-tracking analysis and trends. This would be particularly useful for first-time parents, as they are trying to suss their baby’s sleep pattern and what works best for them. There’s a great feature which you can activate that is called daily snapshot which will capture a daily image for you. We all know as parents as much as our intentions are good, we sometimes get too busy to snap away as much as we can, so something doing this for us automatically is a lovely idea.

Setting up the Shine Baby Pro should have been quite straightforward, but I did struggle a little bit and ended up resetting the camera and starting again. It wasn’t quite as intuitive as I’d expected and I think a sleep-deprived parent may fall into the same trap. Downloading and registering myself on the app was straightforward enough though. There weren’t full instructions on how to connect all the pieces for the stand, but I think I have figured it out okay.
The app is very intuitive and easy to operate. You can customise what features you do and don’t want to use as part of your baby monitor which is great.
The camera looks smart, with its inbuilt stand. It’s much easier to get a full view across your cot than other cameras due to the rotating head. It’s quite a chunky camera and I found it got a bit warm.
As far as app-based baby monitors, this would give me a solid piece of mind as it’s very clear to see your little one, you know that your pictures and data are secure, plus there are a whole load of great features that parents can get geeked out on.
