Signs it’s time to upgrade

Children grow very fast and at a surprising rate and a bike that seemed big enough only recently might be already inappropriate for them. Spotting the signs that your child has outgrown the current cramping vehicle is important not only for safety but also for fun purposes.

And since there are so many fun and colourful kids’ bikes to choose from on Bobbin bikes, it can be hard to not get one even if your child didn’t outgrow the old bike. But how to know if your child has outgrown the old bike? You should look out for the following signs:

1. Physical discomfort

If your little cyclist seems uneasy or mentions discomfort after a ride, it might be time to consider a 24-inch wheel bike. Be on the lookout for any signs of discomfort, like back, neck, and knee pain. A bike that properly fits should give you the most comfortable and enjoyable ride of your life.

2. Awkward posture

Now examine your child’s posture while he/she is riding. If the current bike looks small, unnatural or strange, it is a hint that the current bike is not right. The correct riding position is the foundation for a secure and comfortable biking ride. If the bike is too small then it causes the rider to be in unnatural positions which brings fatigue and musculoskeletal issues. If you notice your child repeatedly scrunching and stretching their body to get comfortable then an upgrade is due.

3. Difficulty reaching pedals

If you notice that your kid repeatedly fails to hit the pedal comfortably, it’s a clear sign that he or she is no longer safe for their current bike. If their knees tend to be rubbing against the handlebar constantly or if they can’t fully extend their legs while pedalling, the bike is definitely too small. Discomfort caused by the inability to reach the pedals is not the only problem as proper riding technique fails too. Increase your child’s bike size to 24 inches, which allows your kid to ride comfortably and efficiently without the hassle of being saddled with a too-small bike.

4. Frequent adjustments

Is it so often that you have to refine the handlebar and seat height of your child’s bike? Though making minor changes would be a normal thing, tweaking it so many times might point at your kid outgrowing the bike. A kid grows taller fast, and if you have to raise the seat almost every time to do so, it is a clear indicator that they need a bigger, more suitable bike. A perfectly compatible bike should need very few adjustments, and so your kid can ride a bike without these distractions.
