Investing in the right home improvement projects will save you a lot of time and a lot of money. After all, if you’re paying for impact in as few changes as possible, your budget is going to stretch a lot further!
And when it comes to something like home improvement, money is the hardest thing to make go round. The materials you buy, the contractors you hire, the hotel you might have to book while the work is going on – there are a lot of costs to contend with.
So let’s keep things nice and simple. If you want to make your home a better place, and a lot more valuable at the same time, make sure you’re focusing on one of the projects down below. They’re great for any and all markets and carry the same kind of impact no matter the neighbourhood.
This is a collaborative post.
Paint the Ceiling
The ceiling gets neglected quite a lot. When you’re doing some home improvement projects, it’s probably the last feature to be on your mind. If that’s the case for you, it’s time to give the ceiling its dues and give it a new coat of paint.
Make sure you have some proper ceiling gloss to work with, whether this is in white or not, and then give all of your rooms the once over. When you’re done, stand back to take a look at your work. You’ll notice every room in your home looks a whole lot brighter and more put together, and that’s the kind of perception trick we’ll always recommend.
And all you need to make this happen? Some good paint brushes and rollers, some coverings to go on the floor, and a ladder you’re comfortable using.

Change the Flooring
Changing the floor in your home can be a game changer – really! Taking out old carpet or lino, and then replacing it with some quality material from The Solid Wood Flooring Company, will make all the difference to the aesthetic of your space. Plus, when the floor feels good beneath your feet, your home gets all the cosier as well.
You can even put the flooring down yourself, as long as you’ve got the time to, and you won’t have to spend on getting it installed. Just fork out for the flooring itself and you’re good to go. That can save upwards of £1000 per room, and that’s the kind of budget we like the sound of!
Lay a New Kitchen Backsplash
A new kitchen backsplash can instantly change the room, even though the tiling usually only takes up a small portion. You’ll find it behind the surfaces near the sink and your stove, and very few kitchens have tiles placed all over.
That’s why this is a very affordable job, to begin with. But on top of that, taking off the old tiles, scraping away the old grouting, and ensuring you’ve degreased the whole space, isn’t too much trouble either. You just need some good scrubbing soap, the right tools, and a few hours to strip it all back.
Once that’s done, pop your new tiles into place and get yourself a grouting gun. That’ll make lining them up much easier. And remember, any grout that goes awry can simply be wiped off before it dries. Voila! A new backsplash, that’s probably a lot neater and more colourful, and your kitchen has been transformed.
Set Up New Light Fixtures
New light fixtures are the final project on our list, but they may take a little more finesse to set up. Make sure you do though, as they transform interior spaces.
After all, not only do new fixtures ensure you have more colourful and aesthetic lights, but you could get much more light for less simply based on the shape you opt for.
For example, an overhead lamp shade that doesn’t point downward will allow light to fill the ceiling as well. That can make a room look far less dark overall, and you’ll have a much cosier perception of the space.
Want to improve your home on a budget? These projects have the most impact and the lowest upfront costs. You can put them to good use within your own property without much issue, and it’ll be easy to get them all done within the space of a month or so. From the flooring to the ceiling and everything in between, these jobs will make a real difference to your home in the long term.
