The Ivy Café in Blackheath is part of the Ivy Collection restaurants. We visited during the lead up to Christmas, before going to see a show. We visited for a spot of dinner.

On arrival, it was busy and we were a bit early for our table reservation, so we sat and had a drink at the bar. The barman seemed very knowledgeable and offered me a red wine recommendation after I asked for one. It turned out to be a very good recommendation and I enjoyed my glass of New Zealand Pinot Noir very much.

After being seated at the table, we perused a very extensive menu with lots of delicious choices but only one main took my eye. The Shepherd’s Pie. I love a Shepherd’s Pie! This variant was made with slow-braised lamb leg and came served with Winterdale Shaw cheese potato mash. The Shepherd’s Pie was perfect – so heavenly and warmly. It was a really delightful and hearty dish and ticked all the boxes of everything you could want from a Shepherd’s Pie.

On recommendation from my friend, we also all went for a classic Prawn Cocktail for starters. The sauce was rich and tangy, the prawns were big and juicy and it was lovely. I haven’t had a prawn cocktail for ages and it made me wonder why I hadn’t made this more at home. Yummy!

We were very full after our mains at The Ivy Blackheath, so we didn’t stop for dessert, but if we had done, there were delightful options to choose from. I would have gone for the melting Chocolate Bombe – it has a vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre and comes served with hot salted caramel sauce. Oh wow – doesn’t that sound good.

The food at the Ivy Blackheath was exceptional and the service juicy and punctual. I would definitely visit here again – and leave room for dessert.

The Ivy Blackheath was really nicely decorated for Christmas – the wreaths, in particular, was stunning.

We had a lovely meal out. My Prawn Cocktail was priced at £9.95, my Shepherd’s Pie was £13.95 and my wine was £11 for a glass.

  1. What beautiful Christmas decorations, I didn’t realise there were a chain of The Ivy restaurants. The food looks delicious.

    1. It truly was Charlotte. You should see if there’s one near you.
