Tips For Finding the Perfect Family Car

This is a collaborative post

There comes a point in every adult’s life where you have to consider exchanging your racy little speedster for a more sensible choice. I know I had to make that choice. Bye-bye my beautiful little soft-top (that wasn’t racy at all, I might add) and hello family car. My old car wouldn’t have been practical at all. It had 4 seats and 2 doors. There was no way I could have lifted a baby seat (or even a baby in and out of the back) and also a soft-top isn’t that much of a sensible choice when you have a little one on board.

So if you are thinking of exchanging your car for a newer model with a few more features, leasing could help you find the perfect car. But to get you thinking about what you might want from your new car, I’ve put together some top tips to think about, so you can find the one. It also might be worth taking a look at this post about child safety and electric cars to think about what type of car you would want to buy.

Makes and Models

Do you like a particular brand? Are replacement parts expensive or cheaper on that brand? Is there a make that comes with quality assurances? You might have a certain make already and want to stick with that make, maybe just changing the model for another in the range or perhaps even a newer version of what you’ve got. A car is an expensive purchase, so you have to make sure you love the car you buy.

Seats and Storage

Do you have a larger family, where you might need a 7-seater? Does the car come with ample boot space for a buggy? Will you be taking it on trips away and need a roof box? Does it have the all-important roof bars? Is the car big enough to accommodate growing teenagers?

Other Features

When thinking about family cars, you might want to think about what special features you might want. Parking sensors, heated seats, in-build TV screens in the back, sunshades or tinted glass in the back to protect little ones. Cup holders – either for the tired parent’s coffee or for the little one’s sippy cup. That’s the most annoying thing about my car. The cup holder is in the wrong place. It’s so difficult to get it out as it’s too close to the handbrake.

However you narrow down your choice of a family car, you should also take into consideration your preferences too. Because you are the one driving it. If you like the way it drives, you’ll enjoy being out in it. If you think it’s a nice looking car, you’ll be proud of it and look after it better. I’d love to hear what comes top of your list when you are looking for a family car.
