Ask anyone – we all hate waiting. Waiting on the phone, waiting at the doctors’ surgery, waiting for the bus, you name it. Waiting is not one of life’s pleasures. There are a few survival tips you could use to ease the painful nature of waiting, so I thought I’d put some of these tips together.

Waiting Survival Tips

While Away The Time With A Good Book

If you do spend a long time waiting for public transport, or indeed even on public transport, why not fill that time with noseying into a good book. Just make sure you keep one eye on the thing you are waiting for, otherwise, you might miss the bus! Reading whilst waiting actually helps to pass the time.

Escape With An Online Game

If you have your phone or laptop handy, why not pass the time with an online game. An easy to play, but fun game can provide some much-needed escapism from what you are waiting for. At online game site plays.org you could select a whole host of games to keep you entertained. Why not browse their new games. I quite enjoyed their arcade games. Tetris, Snake and Pac-Man Chef were all easy to play games that whiled away the time whilst I was waiting for various things.

Do Some Life Admin

I find it incredibly helpful to use a longer period of waiting time to do something useful like dealing with life admin. For example, if I’m at the hairdressers and I’m waiting half an hour for my highlights, then I can use this time to do my online shopping. Saves me a job later on in the day. If you know you are going to be waiting a long time, it might pay you to plan ahead and use that time to do some life admin.

Catch Up With Friends

I don’t mean get on the phone or video call and disturb everyone else waiting. I mean send a text or an email and check in with friends and family. It’s nice for them to know that you are thinking of them and it’s a good time for some clear thinking so you can ask them about things that have been going on in their life. Maybe even take the opportunity to see if they’d like to catch up at a later date.

Take Some Water

If you know you are going to be waiting for a while, especially in places where it might be a bit hot and stuffy, why not come prepared and take a bottle of water with you. That way you won’t be searching around for somewhere to buy something to drink or searching for the water cooler in the waiting room.

Be Prepared When Waiting With Kids

Waiting with children is a whole different ballgame. Especially if they are quite small. They may not be able to sit for long periods, so having plenty of activities for them to do and look at is a great way of stopping them from getting bored and you losing your mind. When I’m waiting with my toddler, I usually take a couple of interactive books, ones with lift the flap or something to do on them. I’m also prepared with games on my phone like matching pairs or even BBC iPlayer should I need something with a bit of longevity. What are your top tips for surviving waiting for things? Is it one of your pet peeves or do you just accept it and zone out?
