What Are the Top Industries in Calgary?

There’s plenty to love about the great city of Calgary and there seems to be endless perks for the residents here, such as the clean streets and the sunny days. While, no matter who you are, you could have a happy life in Calgary but potential happiness isn’t always what dictates where we live. Often, it simply comes down to where we think we’ll be able to get the best job for ourselves.
With that in mind, it makes sense to want to learn a little more about the local job market before looking at Calgary Homes For Sale. Working remotely has given some workers more choice in where they live, it’s not the case for nearly everyone, so this is still something for most of us to consider.
Energy
Many see Calgary as the energy capital of Canada so that means plenty of jobs for those looking to get into the energy sector. Most people know that a vast majority of Canada’s natural gas and oil production happens in Alberta but many don’t realize quite how massive the work truly is. For a clearer perspective, Alberta makes up the third-largest reserve in the entire world.
While Alberta is known as Canada’s largest oil and gas producer, with much of that centred around Calgary, the industry doesn’t stop there. There are plenty of companies headquartered here that work in solar, wind, geothermal and more. With a vast majority of days being sunny throughout the year in Calgary, it should be no surprise they are leading the charge in solar as well.
Aerospace
Calgary is home to one of Canada’s busiest airports but that’s not all that makes the city a major player in the field. Several industry-leading companies have recently moved into Calgary and are focusing their efforts throughout every corner of the industry, from work on drones to commercial space travel.
The geospatial industry might not be something common to the public but those already in the industry will be happy to learn about its presence locally. Not only is there ample work being done in that industry already but the investments are slated to increase in the coming years, meaning that much of the work is really just beginning.
Agribusiness
Not only does Calgary (and all of Alberta by extension) lead the charge in energy but also in agriculture. The city is a massive hub for the global food business and this is thanks to Alberta having a history as the best-growing land anywhere in the country. Even to this day, around a third of the entire province is dedicated to farmland.
While the farms themselves aren’t in the cities, there are plenty of jobs because of them. From production to development safety, having such a strong industry throughout Alberta means that there are plenty of jobs in the capital. If this is an industry you are interested in or already work in, it’s going to be hard to imagine being anywhere in Canada and having better career prospects.
