What Being A Blogger Means To Me
This is a collaborative post
I started my blog, Life Loving, over seven years ago. The blogging landscape was pretty different then to what it is now, but as a lifelong marketer, I’ve seen marketing grow and change. Much more recently in my career, I’ve seen how fast digital marketing changes and blogging is just a small part of that. I’m pretty adept at learning, so I just roll along with the changes and learn as I go. There are some amazing bloggers out there, who’ve written some great resources to help others on their journeys. I enjoy reading about these changes and learning from others.
So my blog started out as a way to document all the life experiences I have. I wanted to share my honest opinions of things to do, places to go, recipes I love, tips I’ve picked up along the way and a bit more. It was my little piece of the internet and my outlet. But over the years it has become much more than that. I was listening to the story of Jessica Bishop and how her budget wedding blog started from where she just started documenting her wedding journey and it rang true. Sometimes the best things grow from something we love and are passionate about.
Now all these years on, my blog is an outlet for me to still write about the things I want. My life has changed dramatically. I no longer can drop everything to hop on a plane for a week exploring a new country. I’m now married, have a two-year-old son and another baby on the way, but writing my blog still gives me all the enjoyment it once did. My topics are a little different, my holidays slightly less adventurous and my restaurant choices more kid-friendly, but the blog is still the same.

One big thing that has changed for me, is that I’m no longer a slave to a 9 – 5 job (or perhaps an 8 – 7?!?). Don’t get me wrong, I’ve not given up working. I’ve done a couple of contracts over the last couple of years, I earn some money from my blog and I top up with some freelance work. Blogging has not only inspired me to try new things and visit new places, but it also gives me a small amount of financial freedom so that I can balance my working life with my actual life. I enjoy getting all the house chores out of the way during the week, so we have quality family time in the evenings and weekends. I love the days I spend with my son, seeing my extended family and catching up with friends. Blogging is liberating. Will I be able to do this forever – who knows? The blogging universe will continue to change and evolve. I suspect I will have to find another job or a contract after baby number two is here and has settled into our family life, but right now, I’m loving writing my blog and particularly my new passion project – All That Grows.
