Austin – Month 11
This month has again been a very different month to what we are used to. No more Mummy and baby lunch dates, no baby groups and no leaving the house apart from a daily walk. And walk we have. We live in a small village and we have walked every single pavement in that village nearly every day. We can’t go any further as outside of the village it is country roads and they aren’t safe to take a pram on.

We’ve had lots of nice days in the garden again. Making use of the tent we bought to play in and shelter from the midday sun.

Sleeping
Austin continues to sleep really well overnight. I can’t actually remember the last time he woke during the night. I know we are so lucky he’s a good sleeper, but I also think it’s been good getting a consistent sleep routine and helping him to learn to self-settle. We have had a few early morning wakes before 6am, but generally, he wakes about 6 to 6:15am.
We’re getting some good long naps as well. Regularly the morning nap will be around 40 minutes long, sometimes though he sleeps for an hour and a quarter. The afternoon nap is at least an hour and sometimes two.
Morning nap – 9.30am – 10:10am/10:45am
Lunchtime nap – 2:00pm – 3:00pm/4:00pm
Feeding
He’s definitely getting pickier when it comes to food. There are a few meals he’s refused to eat. I find that if I keep frozen chopped tomato in the freezer, I can defrost a couple of cubes in the microwave and add them to whatever it is he won’t eat, he will then eat it. He obviously likes the taste of tomato, so it allows me to get a bigger variety of meals in him if I add a bit of tomato.

As he’s sleeping later in the afternoon, we’ve dropped the afternoon snack. We just offer him a drink once he wakes up. His current routine is –
7am – 6oz of formula
8am – breakfast
12pm – lunch
4:30pm – dinner
6:30pm – 5oz of formula
As he’s now got quite a few teeth, I’m offering more food that needs to be bitten or chewed. Quite often I’ll just lightly mash food instead of pureeing it, so he gets used to more textures. He can make easy work of a rice cake with his teeth now!

Nappies
We’ve switched solely to Pampers for daytime and night-time and we haven’t had any leaks yet. We are having very full nappies after just a couple of hours. He does drink a lot of fluid which is good in this hot weather we’ve been having.

Mental and Physical Development
Austin has now started crawling. It’s more of a commando crawl than a hands and knees crawl, but he’s still pretty fast.
He can also move from crawling to sitting up and vice versa. He’s quite agile now. We’ve had to get a pen out as there are times when I need to leave him in a safe place for a few minutes. He’s really not keen on the pen and often cries as soon as I lower him – makes me feel very guilty, but I know it’ll only be for a couple of minutes.

He can also pull himself up to standing. We’ve had to lower his cot so he can’t pull himself up and over.

He’s picked up rhythm and if we are playing music and he likes it, he’ll start to bop along.
He’s got a good understanding of language and often if I tell him something he’ll process it before he decided what to do about it. For example, if I tell him he’s not to go out into the hallway, he looks back and me and most of the time he stops and doesn’t go into the hallway. Not always though!

Teeth-wise, we now have 7 teeth cut. Three at the bottom and four at the top. There is another one on its way at the bottom and two more on the top, but they haven’t cut yet.
See you again next month for the one year update!
