Conic Hill

Conic Hill is a wonderful hill walk starting from Balmaha, which is a little village on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, Scotland.

The summit of Conic Hill is around 350m high, which means it gets the heart pumping but it’s not too much of a challenge. You’d have to have a reasonable level of (walking) fitness to get to the top, but it’s quite an accessible climb for all, including the young and the slightly older. We went with a two year old, who did an amazing job though the initial foresty part, but had to be carried up the steeper bits, the further up we went.

We went up the hill walk when we were visiting our friends in Glasgow and what a treat it was. The views as you are ascending are spectacular and you can see right across Loch Lomond, which is breath-taking. On a clear day, you can see as far as Arran.

We had a bit of a mixed bag of weather. It was quite clear going up Conic Hill, but as we reached the summit, it had started to cloud over. Meaning we could only really take in the views from one side but what we did see was spectacular.

It’s a really rewarding walk as you do get a bit hot and sweaty going up and the views are amazing.

You start the walk from Balmaha. There is a free car park, toilets and a little visit centre there. There’s also a pub opposite the car park called The Oak Tree Inn, which is perfect for a spot of lunch after your walk.

It’s a definite must-see when you are in and around the area. You’ll be so glad you took in the views.

Conic Hill is perfect for a walk with friends or a romantic date. Here are some other ideas for romantic dates in Scotland.
