It’s about that time of year where families get together and start to think about their next holiday. Where shall we go? What shall we do? Which destination shall we visit? Are you considering France? There are lots of great reasons to go, so here are my top tips for family holidays in France.

Food & Drink

You can’t go to France without indulging in the food and drink available. For the little ones, the pastries, crepes, cheese and macarons are tempting. For those with more mature tastes, the soups, stews, wines and champagnes tantalise the taste buds. Every meal is a treat for the mouth and the nose. Different regions have different specialities and whether you are eating out or catering in your accommodation, you’ll be spoilt with the quality and choice of food available.

Exploring

There’s a lot to see in France. It has a wide range of countryside, cities, towns and villages to explore. You could visit the Alps or Pyrenees for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. Provence is famous for its iconic and beautiful lavender fields. The Jura region’s lakes and waterfalls provide any family holiday in France with that well-needed fresh air and the opportunity to wear the kids out. If you want to explore historic chateaux, then Loire Valley is the region for your family. Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris is a magical break for children of all ages. With amazing rides, glorious parades and the all-famous Disney Castle, there’s enough to keep any family amused for a day or two. With two different parks, Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, there’s lots of fun to get your teeth into. Keep an eye out for special events going on around topical times, like Halloween or Christmas. If you’re lucky, you might even see Mickey Mouse and steal a selfie with him.

The Beaches

France’s beaches offer a plethora of experiences. For the surfers, visit Biarritz for some great waves. For the sun-worshippers, the beaches in the south at Cannes or St Tropez will offer golden rays to sunbathers. For those who enjoy beach café culture, Nice’s promenade or neighbouring Monaco’s harbour will be right up your street. Further north, the beach at Le Touquet is stunning. The town offers plenty of delightful restaurants and shops when you’ve had enough of the sun. You can also take a trip to Montpelier. Here’s a fantastic travel guide on what to do there.

Getting Active

You can’t think of going to France without doing some sort of sporting pursuit. Whether that’s cycling, hiking, skiing, boating or surfing, you should really explore the outdoors whilst getting your heart rate up. If you are going to be getting on a boat, you’ll want to be sure you are properly kitted out – sailing trousers or shorts might be a good idea.

Walkers and hikers find the varied terrain a real treat when visiting France and your little ones will be amazed at the activities on offer. You could even choose a more leisurely way to explore like a Segway tour or hiring an electric mountain bike for a few days.
