Sometimes, you want to go out with your friends but don’t want the hassle of travelling, but if you live in a relatively small place, there’s then the question of what to do.
There’s only so much pottering about the shops and going on long walks you can do, so, understandably, you need something different.
Whether you’re looking to host a small celebration or are just after a catch-up, this article is here to help you out with four fun things to see and experience around town with your girlfriends when you’re stuck for ideas.
This is a collaborative post.
1. Afternoon Tea
Afternoon tea is a great time for you and your friends, and most towns have a couple of places that offer this service.
If you’re unfamiliar, a typical afternoon tea consists of delicately prepared finger food served on tiered trays – usually small sandwiches, cakes, and scones. The lunch is accompanied by a variety of hot drinks (though normal tea or Earl Grey tends to be the standard), and the environment is usually set out to be calming and relaxing with nice music and pleasant aromas.
Every place does it slightly differently, so have a look around your local area and see what you can find.

2. Checking Out Local Markets
One of the best things about towns is their local markets.
Given that these are something that have usually always been there, it’s easy to take them for granted; you may not have even ever been to the one in your town. There’s usually plenty to see, from handmade jewellery to home decor stalls, and no two markets are quite the same.
Stalls are also changing constantly, so if you went a few years ago, there are likely entirely different stalls on offer now.
These markets are great for a relaxing meander through with your friends, so consider them for your next outing.
3. Workshops and Classes
Nearly every town has workshops and classes to explore, so why not consider heading to something random that none of you have tried?
These are always a good laugh, and who knows, you might even find your next hobby here or learn something really interesting. Facebook is a great place to start looking – check out the events board for your town and see what’s on.
4. Spa Days
Spa days always go down a treat. Given the fast pace of modern life, no one says no to a few hours of relaxation.
A spa experience can take many forms. You could head down to your local leisure centre for a sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room session, or if you’re lucky enough, you might have a wellness retreat within a five to ten-minute drive.
These centres provide a great way to catch up with your friends in a calming atmosphere, and you’re sure to come out feeling renewed.
Wrapping Up
Hopefully, this article has given you a bit of inspiration for heading out into town to discover something new with your friends. Even if you think you’ve done everything, there’s always an activity you haven’t thought of. Have fun!
