Once the leaves start turning, the mornings feel cooler, and pumpkins appear outside every farm shop, I know autumn has properly arrived in Kent. Halloween has become a big part of our October calendar, especially now that my children are old enough to enjoy dressing up, following spooky trails and collecting a few treats along the way, so I thought I would pull together a list of the best Halloween things to do in Kent 2026.
There are some truly brilliant Halloween events in Kent in 2026, from gentle trails for younger children to castle adventures, after-dark high ropes, ghost hunts and properly frightening experiences for teenagers and adults.
The main Kent school half-term runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026, so a lot of the attractions are running their Halloween activities across the weekends on either side, giving us a bit more time to fit everything in.

Horrible Histories Halloween At Leeds Castle
Leeds Castle is bringing Horrible Histories to Kent for Halloween 2026 with Silly Ghosts and Ghastly History, running from 17 October to 1 November.
Rather than being a frightening experience, this is a lively, funny Halloween adventure filled with historical characters, challenges and plenty of Horrible Histories-style humour. Leeds Castle is one of our personal favourites.
Children can meet royal ghosts, learn about Joan of Navarre’s witchcraft accusation, take on Henry VIII and try their hand at potion-making. Complete all the challenges, and they can earn their reward as an official “Ghost Getter”.
There is also a Ghostly Gala finale near the maze, featuring music, dancing and performers. Fancy-dress competitions take place twice each day, so this is a good excuse for the children to wear their Halloween costumes somewhere other than around the neighbourhood.
The Halloween activities are included with a standard Leeds Castle admission ticket. A visit can also include the castle, maze and grotto, adventure playgrounds, gardens and Birds of Prey Centre, so it is easy to spend most of the day there.
Leeds Castle operates a pay-once-and-visit-all-year ticket system. It is worth considering the overall annual value rather than looking at it as the price of a single Halloween trail. We have the annual tickets and it’s well worth it for us.
Best for: Primary-school children who enjoy Horrible Histories, costumes and interactive challenges.

Halloween Half-Term Fun At Hever Castle
Hever Castle’s Halloween event runs from 17 October to 1 November 2026 and has a Spooktacular Science theme.
The main activity is the Mad Scientists Halloween Trail, which leads families around the grounds past displays of strange experiments. Children need to spot hidden letters and solve the puzzle before collecting a small treat.
There is also a craft activity where children can make wearable mad-scientist goggles and an interactive Dr Frankenstein science show. The show uses experiments, electricity and a plasma ball to bring Dr Frankenstein’s creature to life.
Most Halloween activities are included with normal admission. Face painting is available on selected dates for an additional £6 per child.
Hever’s event is more playful than frightening, making it a good option for the little ones or anyone who wants a Halloween day out without actors jumping out at them.
The gardens provide plenty of room for children to explore, although the event is partly outdoors, so I would sugges taking waterproof coats and sensible shoes.
Best for: Younger children, science fans and families avoiding anything too scary.

Halloween Spooktacular At Kent Life
Kent Life’s Halloween Spooktacular returns from 24 October to 1 November 2026.
This is one of the most convenient Halloween days out for us because it is close to Maidstone Kent Life is transformed for Halloween with decorations and a fun programme of themed entertainment.
Kent Life’s Halloween events normally combine trick-or-treating, performances and seasonal activities with the attraction’s usual farmyard animals, historic buildings and play areas.
It is a particularly good choice if you have children of different ages because there is enough to fill a full day without everything being focused on scares. Younger children can enjoy the decorations and animals, while older children can get more involved in the Halloween activities.
Kent Life’s Halloween dates can become fully booked, especially during half-term, so advance booking is a very good idea.
Best for: A full family day out with Halloween activities and farm animals.

The Great Pumpkin Party At Dover Castle
Dover Castle is hosting its Great Pumpkin Party from 24 October to 1 November 2026.
This Halloween day out in Kent includes interactive storytelling, spooky games, a themed trail and a Halloween photograph area. Children are encouraged to arrive in costume and can enter a daily fancy-dress competition.
I think it sounds really fun without being too frightening, making it suitable for primary-school-aged children.
The Halloween programme is included with general admission. English Heritage members receive free entry, while non-members can save 15% by booking in advance.
If you’ve never been before, be aware that Dover Castle is enormous, so leave enough time to see more than the Halloween trail. The medieval interiors, battlements and wartime tunnels help give it a naturally atmospheric feel at this time of year.
There is a fair amount of walking, some slopes and several outdoor areas, so wear suitable shoes and prepare for unprectiable weather – it is right on the coast after all.
Best for: Combining a Halloween trail with a full historic day out.

Fort Amherst Halloween Events
Fort Amherst in Chatham is offering three different levels of Halloween experience in October 2026, which should make choosing the correct ticket a little easier.
Clown Chaos is the new children’s event for 2026. It is intended for children aged approximately five to ten and involves learning spells, making potions and using a wand to banish mischievous clowns.
Despite the name, it is designed as the gentlest of the three experiences. However, I would still consider how your child feels about clowns before booking!
Face Your Fears is a new 12A experience recommended for visitors aged 12 and over. Sessions run earlier in the evening than the adult event and offer a more intense experience for teenagers and brave families.
Halloween Horrors is Fort Amherst’s highest scare level and is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. Expect darkness, suspense and a much more frightening experience inside this naturally atmospheric historic fort.
Tickets are sold separately for each experience. Fort Amherst is a really fun day or evening out. I’ve been there with my friends and it was so much fun. I would suggest you check the specific age recommendation, times and accessibility information carefully before booking because parts of the site include tunnels, steps and uneven ground.
Best for: Everyone from brave children to adults who want a proper scare.

Go Ape Sundown Adventures At Leeds Castle
If you have older or particularly adventurous children, Go Ape’s Sundown Adventures offer something quite different from a traditional Halloween trail.
The Leeds Castle high-ropes courses are illuminated after dark, allowing visitors to tackle crossings and zip wires among glowing trees.
The 2026 Sundown Adventures run from 16 October to 1 November. There are also adults-only sessions on 16 and 23 October.
The experience is separately operated and ticketed by Go Ape, so it is not included with normal Leeds Castle admission, but you also don’t need a Leeds Castle ticket to take part. Courses also have individual age, height and supervision requirements, which you should check carefully before booking.
It could work particularly well for families with older children who have outgrown gentle pumpkin trails but do not want a theatrical scare attraction.
Best for: Adventurous older children, teenagers and adults.

Spooky Fun And Halloween Giggles At Maidstone Museum
Maidstone Museum is holding a children’s Halloween party on Saturday 31 October 2026.
Running from 5 pm–7 pm, Spooky Fun and Halloween Giggles provides an affordable indoor option right in the centre of Maidstone. Tickets are very reasonably priced at £5 per person.
It could be a good alternative if the weather is dreadful, you do not want to pay for a full attraction ticket, or you are looking for something to do instead of neighbourhood trick-or-treating. We’re not big fans of door knocking so it would be a perfect alternative for this.
The museum is also holding an adults-only fantasy ball later that evening, so make sure you select the children’s party when booking family tickets.
Best for: Affordable indoor Halloween fun.

Pick Your Own Pumpkins In Kent
Pumpkin picking is one of our favourite ways to begin the Halloween season, but there are too many Kent pumpkin patches to squeeze properly into this article.

Some of the main choices include Pumpkin Moon in Maidstone and Rainham, PYO Pumpkins at Beluncle Farm in Hoo, Stanhill Farm near Dartford, Little Fant Farm near Maidstone and Lower Ladysden Farm in Goudhurst.
Remember that pumpkins usually cost extra on top of any admission charge. Fields can also become extremely muddy, so wellies and a change of shoes for the children are never a bad idea.
Best for: An affordable and traditional autumn family trip.

Haunted Hever Castle Tours
For a more atmospheric look at Hever Castle, after-hours haunted tours are taking place from 29–31 October 2026.
The castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and has more than 600 years of history behind it, so it is already an evocative place to explore after dark.
These tours are separate from Hever Castle’s daytime family activities and are better suited to adults or older teenagers. Check the age restrictions and tour format before booking.
Best for: Adults and older teenagers who enjoy history and ghost stories.

Ghost Hunting At Maidstone Museum
Maidstone Museum is running an evening ghost-hunting experience on Friday 23 October 2026.
Participants will explore the museum with experienced ghost hunters and use specialist equipment to investigate possible paranormal activity.
This Kent Halloween event runs from 8 pm–11 pm and costs £30 per person. This is aimed at adults rather than children, so check the organiser’s age restriction before booking.
Even if you are sceptical about ghosts, wandering around a historic museum after closing time should make for a fascinating and rather atmospheric evening.
Best for: Adults interested in paranormal investigations.

The Spellbound Soirée At Maidstone Museum
For adults who prefer a Halloween party to a ghost hunt, Maidstone Museum is also holding The Spellbound Soirée: Fairies, Monsters and Fantasy Ball.
Guests are encouraged to dress as fairies, monsters, witches, demons or another magical creation. The evening includes dancing and a prize for the best costume.
It takes place from 8 pm until midnight on Halloween and is strictly for guests aged 18 and over. So if you have kids, get a babysitter and enjoy a child-free night out. Tickets cost £15 per person.
Best for: An affordable adults-only Halloween party.

Quex Adventure Farm Park Trick Or Treat Trail
Quex Adventure Farm Park in Birchington is running its family-friendly Trick or Treat Trail on 17–18 October and again from 22–31 October 2026.
Children can explore the Spooky Woods, meet friendly Halloween characters and collect treats along the way. They can then visit the Bewitched Pumpkin Patch to choose a pumpkin to take home. We went last year, and it was a lot of fun.
Tickets include the Trick or Treat Trail, a Halloween treat, one pumpkin per child, a journey aboard the Slime Blaster Express and access to the farm park’s facilities, where weather permits.
This is one of the most complete family Halloween events in East Kent because so much is included in the experience. There is also free parking, although I would book in advance if you want to visit during the October half-term.
Best for: A full Halloween experience for children in East Kent.

Quex Halloween Fest
Quex is also running a much scarier evening event for adults and older teenagers on 24, 30 and 31 October 2026.
Halloween Fest includes three new scare mazes filled with live actors, theatrical effects, spooky soundscapes and plenty of jump scares. The wider festival area offers seasonal food, warming drinks, Halloween entertainment and several themed photo opportunities.
The scare mazes include a sinister circus, a cursed woodland and a rather gruesome farm experience. This is certainly not the event to book by mistake when looking for Quex’s children’s trail!
Halloween Fest is designed for visitors aged 14 and over. Tickets start from £24.95, with optional VIP tickets providing access to a separate lounge and bar area.
Best for: Teenagers aged 14 and over and adults who enjoy scare mazes.

Yuck Yard At The Historic Dockyard Chatham
Yuck Yard returns to the Historic Dockyard Chatham from 24 October to 8 November 2026 with a new adventure called The Curse of the Medway Phantom.
Families receive an official Security Incident Report and follow a trail of slimy handprints around a series of “grime scenes”. Children collect clues and investigate whether Barnaby Bilge is responsible for all the mysterious chaos.
A live show called The Night Shift runs at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm from 24 October to 1 November. Both the trail and live shows are included with a standard Dockyard admission ticket, with no separate activity booking required. They sound so much fun, don’t they?
I think this sounds like a good choice for children who enjoy silly humour, mysteries and interactive shows. You can also explore the Dockyard’s historic ships and galleries while you are there, making it a full day out rather than a short Halloween trail.
The Dockyard is also advertising a separate after-hours Family Ghost Tour. This promises a few jumps alongside plenty of laughs as a guide introduces families to the site’s mischievous spirits and ghostly stories. Check the individual event page for dates, age guidance and ticket information.

Halloween At St Andrews Lakes
St Andrews Lakes in Halling is offering three unusual after-dark Halloween activities in 2026.
Halloween Zip in the Dark runs from 29 October to 1 November. Visitors can tackle the lake’s zip wire after dark, combining heights and darkness for a Halloween experience that is very different from the usual spooky trail.
On Friday 30 October, experienced paddlers can join a Halloween Paddle at 7 pm using their own paddleboard or kayak.
There is also a Spooky Swim at 7 pm that evening. However, this is restricted to swimmers who have already completed the St Andrews Lakes induction process, so it is not an activity you can book as a first-time visitor.
These are outdoor adventure activities rather than theatrical Halloween experiences. Check the minimum age, height, ability, equipment and supervision requirements carefully before booking.
Best for: Adventurous families, teenagers and experienced open-water swimmers.

We’re Going On A Ghost Hunt At Chartwell
Chartwell’s 2026 Halloween trail has been created specifically for children under eight, making it one of the best gentle Halloween events in Kent for younger families.
The We’re Going on a Ghost Hunt trail leads through the parkland and gardens, with eight activity stops, games and playful challenges along the way. Children can search for hidden ghosts before collecting a special sticker after completing the trail.
You’ll find that it runs daily from 3 October to 1 November. The trail is free, although normal Chartwell admission and parking charges apply. National Trust members receive their usual admission benefits.
The route includes slopes, steps and uneven ground and could become muddy in wet weather. Wellies and an all-terrain pushchair would therefore be a sensible idea.
Best for: Children under eight and families looking for gentle Halloween fun.

Monsters Around The Moat At Scotney Castle
Scotney Castle is hosting its Monsters Around the Moat Halloween trail from 17 October to 1 November 2026.
The main trail is particularly suitable for older children and involves solving riddles, completing challenges and collecting clues to reveal a secret party message.
The moated castle already makes a wonderfully atmospheric setting for an autumn day out. However, the event is presented as a fun family adventure rather than a frightening scare trail, so it should still suit children who are not keen on jump scares.
Trail sheets cost £3.50 in addition to normal admission. National Trust members receive free general admission but will still need to pay for the trail.
Best for: School-aged children who enjoy clues, riddles and challenges.

Autumn Festival At Emmetts Garden
Emmetts Garden is running an Autumn Festival from 9 October to 1 November 2026, with seasonal activities, a family trail, fairground rides and special Halloween workshops.
From 29 October to 1 November, children aged eight and over can join a ticketed Spooky Woodcraft workshop. An accredited Forest School teacher will show children how to use carving tools safely while making a wooden mushroom keyring.
The woodcraft sessions cost £8 per child in addition to normal admission and should be booked in advance.
Younger children can take part in free spiderweb-weaving workshops over the same dates. These drop-in sessions are suitable for children aged two and over and involve creating a spiderweb and pinecone spider. Normal admission charges still apply.
This is more autumnal than frightening, so it would be a lovely option for families who prefer crafts, gardens and seasonal colour to live actors and jump scares.
Best for: Halloween crafts, autumn walks and gentle seasonal fun.

Pumpkin Picking At Sissinghurst Castle Garden
Sissinghurst Castle Garden is offering limited pumpkin-picking sessions during the October half-term.
Visitors can choose a pumpkin from the vegetable garden to take home for £5. The sessions take place on 27 and 28 October 2026, with normal admission charges also applying.
This is a much smaller experience than visiting one of Kent’s commercial pumpkin patches. I would treat it as a lovely seasonal addition to a day at Sissinghurst rather than travelling there solely for pumpkin picking.
The gardens and estate are particularly beautiful during autumn, so I would say that it would make a peaceful alternative to some of Kent’s busier Halloween attractions.

For younger children, I would look first at Hever Castle, Kent Life or the children’s event at Maidstone Museum.
Hever Castle’s science theme is playful rather than frightening, while Kent Life combines its Halloween entertainment with familiar farm animals and play areas.
Fort Amherst’s Clown Chaos is designed for children aged five to ten, but children who are nervous around clowns, darkness or theatrical characters may prefer one of the outdoor castle trails.
You know your child best. A “family-friendly” label does not necessarily mean that every child will enjoy loud noises, actors in costume or dark indoor spaces.
