Every house has a distinct smell. For instance, I know when an item of clothing has been washed and dried at my Mum’s house as it’s a very familiar scent from my childhood. The same when Austin comes home from nursery, he and his clothes smell different to when he left in the morning. It’s lovely when you go to someone’s house and their house smells clean, fresh and vibrant. If you want that kind of scent, here are some tips on how to make your house smell amazing.

Have A Sniff

Start by identifying any bad smells in your house. Sniff some coffee first (I promise you it works as it resets your nose). Then go around room-by-room having a sniff. If you pick up any odours, these are the areas you should tackle first. Places that are obvious to check are bathrooms, kitchen sinks and bins, but even cupboards or rooms that aren’t used much can have a slightly unpleasant scent to them.

Clean

Once you’ve identified the places that are a bit whiffy, you should give them a thorough clean with some disinfectant. That will help freshen them up. If you’ve got a musty room, try opening the windows more regularly. If it’s a cupboard, why not have a clear out. It might be that there’s just too much stuff in there.

Treat Yourself To A Diffuser

I love a diffuser. They not only look pretty in any room, but you can also choose a scent that you really love. They are perfect for helping to set the mood of a room too. You could choose softer woody scents for the living spaces and more citrus tones for areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Take a look at the range from Millefiori and your house will be smelling so good in no time. There are lots of other products to choose from over at Notino, so pop over for a look.

Introduce House Plants

Adding some lovely scented house plants to your indoor space can help clean and purify the air. If you choose fragrant ones like jasmine or eucalyptus, they will also give you a pleasant scent in the air.

Use Dryer Sheets

These are often scented so why not pop a couple in with your laundry in the airing cupboard or even in with your towels when they are being folded and put away. They will add a nice scent to the cupboard and also the room that the cupboard is housed in.

Refresh Carpets

If you carpets have seen better days. You could add some baking soda to them. This is a natural deodoriser so will remove any nasty niffs. You’ll need to leave the baking soda for about 15 minutes before hoovering up, but it should give you much fresher smelling carpets in no time.
