Indoor Lighting Techniques for Your Home
Ad: This is a collaborative post
As we all start to spend more time indoors during the winter and through these trying times, it’s become even more desirable to redesign the lighting in our homes. Throw into the mix the fact that many of us are now working from home, any room in your house could conceivably be a makeshift home office. We’ll go over some interesting and easy ways you can upgrade your lighting throughout the home.
Colour Changing Light Bulbs
Maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm is extremely important to our mental health. It helps us regulate our sleep cycle and can therefore help with increasing productivity and improving our mood. As the days get shorter and we turn on our lights for longer each day, using LED lighting to mimic sunlight is a great way to fend off the negative impacts of SAD.
Colour changing light bulbs allow you to change the Kelvin value of white lights from 2700k (Very Warm White) up to 5000k (Daylight). Setting these light bulbs to be a warm shade in the early morning, increasing to cool whites throughout the day and then dimming back to warm white again in the evening effectively mimics the behaviour of the sun and keeps our bodies in sync.
Many colour changing bulbs now have the benefit of allowing you to choose from millions of colours. Make sure you look out for RGBW light bulbs so you can have full customisation of your lighting profiles throughout the home.
Neon Signs
Adding a neon sign to your home can really add some personality. You could use it in place of a picture or mirror in a living or dining room. It would be a real talking point with any visitors you might have.
LED Striplights
If it’s mood lighting in the living room, kitchen or bedroom that you’re looking for; LED striplights are a perfect choice.
In the living room, adding a strip of LED lights underneath shelves, behind the TV or under cabinets is an excellent way to add a touch of vibrance to your room.
For the kitchen; striplights underneath cabinets and overhanging countertops are a great way to add a modern flair to your home. Kitchens tend to have Cool White hues where crisp lighting is desirable. If you have a large kitchen with a dining area it could be a great idea to mix lighting profiles with Cool White striplights underneath cabinets and a mix of Warm White fittings in the dining area. This is a great way to make your kitchen feel like a more comfortable space to spend time & to eat.
When it comes to lighting a bedroom, the most important thing to aim for is comfort. Adding LED striplights underneath the bed or behind your headboard is a great way of getting diffused lighting that is unobtrusive and calming.

Recessed Lighting
If your interior design lends itself to modern styles, recessed lighting with LED Spotlights is an excellent choice. There are a great many options available from Fire Rated Downlights & directional beam downlights available in all colour ranges means they can be added to any room in the home.
Decorative Light Bulbs
If it’s a rustic style you want, then replacing your existing light bulbs with decorative bulbs in a lamp, suspended ceiling or pendant light would be a great way to achieve this. Decorative LED bulbs are designed to be fully retro-fit for old bulbs and are best when left exposed. They feature a decorative filament so you can get a rustic style in a truly modern package.

When it comes to lighting your home, there are many ways you can customise your space to suit your mood or your style. Use some of the tricks outlined in this guide and you’re well on your way to revolutionising your interior design.
